There are many files to translate and there is a lot of work ahead.
It is not just about translating the words literally because Jorb has done an amazing job documenting hundreds of plants, animals and techniques in order to make this game. Some of the animals and vegetation are quite unique because they are located in the northern Europe and their names do not have a Spanish equivalent.
This work requires reading hundreds of wikipedia entries and doing comparisons to find exactly what the devs were referring to. There are also many references to Tolkien and other authors.
To do this I'll probably need help from other Spanish speakers and if it’s possible from Jorb to select the correct words or meanings.
These are the files to translate and also a file I'm doing in order to help other players make these translations to their own languages. As I said previously, some things are difficult to find, so I have written down their Latin names to make the search easier. ie. Some trees, even from the same family, grow just in America or Asia, so you need to find its name for the North European area.

You can edit the files either in some text editor like Notepad++ (regular notepad won't work).
Or there are tools which allow working with location files like http://attesoro.org but I haven't used those so don't know about them.
Just make sure to save new files using the UTF-8 encoding.
There is some additional code in the strings which allows embedding images, making the text italic, or making it colored, or new line separator. Things like this:
- Code: Select all
$img[gfx/hud/chr/unarmed]
$col[255,128,128]{Oppressive}
i{"Ettinaz saw the signs"}
\\n
So you probably will want to be careful with those and leave them as is, that is, just replace the english text but leave everything else intact.

It needs to be saved in UTF-8 without BOM.
-Ive translated about 189 entries of the first file, composed of about 1350 names.
