Not the usual combat complaint

This is a common comment:

Why do combat values have to be static? Under the same conditions you will always hit for the same exact damage, and your defense will always block a certain move.

My suggestion is that you add a random value to combat formulas. For example, making damage and/or weight -20%/+20% more or less effective for every move somehow. You could even make cooldowns -20%/+20% longer or shorter.

Because randomness in combat is not generally fun.

Of course it is, combat should never be a certainty.
Learn to love percentages and 2d8s :D

It could be that when you have permadeath on the line, you tend to gravitate towards being safe.

i have to agree. id rather not lose a character, losing months of work over a damn bad roll from a random number generator.
