Improved Demijohns

Postby DaniAngione » Wed May 18, 2016 7:11 pm

I love the Demijohn! They're visually so cool and make for a nice brewery/winery decoration and tool.

However there's something that has been bothering me about them lately... Maybe we didn't notice it before because we had no use for wine and all that, but now that vinegar, wine and beer productions are full steam ahead, this has become a more annoying problem. It's not a big deal - it's just annoying.

It is very hard to see if there is something inside the demijohn. And if there is, you can't tell what it is. Maybe the green glass texture is too strong or maybe there's no color at all in the contents, etc... I don't know - thing is: it's annoying to have to click all of them to be sure you're not missing anything.
And it gets worse when it's night and they are outside. I know that it is arguably easier to see with Night Vision (from custom clients) on - but I suppose features/development shouldn't be made thinking like "well, people will be able to see with night vision on" :P lol The intended experience is, after all, the vanilla client.

Anyway, this is how they look right now. Some of them are filled, some are not.

And here I made a little edit showing how they could look like when filled. Not only easier to see, but also able to tell what is inside. I've made grapejuice, wine and vinegar (just as examples) but, of course, this is just an idea. If not possible to know what it is, at least being able to instantly tell IF there is anything at all would be awesome already!

Anyway, just my opinion on the matter...
Also, it would look much better! ;)

Wow! A critique, an idea, and an example. Now THIS is how someone presents requests/ideas to the developers. Nicely done Dani. (also, not a terrible idea)

Why not just right click on them and check? Or remember where you put them?

For the same reason we don't harvest or plant tile by tile anymore. For the same reason seeds can be stacked now, for the same reason barrels have labels, for the same reason sheep grow fluffy when they can be sheared or crops change visually when ready to harvest, for the same reason custom clients created Timers so things like Silk Farming or Tree planting are very straightforward, etc, etc...

It's called intuitivity and quality of life improvements.

This forum has a strict "just circumvent it instead of improving the functionality of the game" policy.

Yeah, you could see in legacy, not sure either tho if that was on default or was an Enders thing. :)

Yeah, I remember it shows too, but I did use Ender and a different texture pack... so that might be the reason... I have no vanilla screenshots from legacy, so no way to know :(
