Why not just let a piece or two stored in the pile rot from time to time as an upkeep?

Two kinda offtopic things:

I used to get a warning when I wanted to post something and another user had posted in between, this seems to be missing now

Moderators could maybe split this thread because it is more of a C&I discussion now.

On topic:

Actually, that's exactly what I meant. It just occurred to me I might have imagined loftar (or somebody, anyway) suggesting the implementation of a decay-hit hitting a build sign making an item inside 'rot'. Of course with the way decay works*, that makes multi-tile stockpiles more susceptible.

*well, the way decay worked before I took my hiatus at the start of the second world. I dunno if it's changed. I've certainly noticed my kiln and ovens seem to turn red (well, redder) fast, though, but that may have just been the low civilization.

Off-topic:

Yeah, we've definitely got two different tracks going here so a split might be in order. As for the 'warning', that still works for me (I got it when I mentioned the bit at the end of my last post).

When Avu just says "stockpile", it sounds to me like a general object which stores any amount of anything; which would, obviously, make all other containers obsolete. In order for that not to happen, it would be necessary to limit what a "stockpile" could stockpile, and (possibly) also the amount of it. My point was to invite discussion about what kind of such limitations would be reasonable.

obviously, stockpiles would be used for basic resources, the building blocks of H&H

Why would I assume that? Why, because you are Avu, Maker of Inane Statements. :)

On a more serious note, I did, of course, not assume that. In fact, I assumed that you actually did not, and I intended to make it clear with my second statement that, because it sounded like you meant that in spite of you obviously not actually meaning that, some clarification might be in order. I am sorry about my utter failure in communication.
