Great, but we still suffer from a pointless removal mechanic.

Change the removing mechanic so that tiles supported by the removed support that would cave in will not when being supported by other supports.
Clean and simple, exploit free, rule.

You can leave the 'can be safely removed if they have never prevented a cave in' in as an addition if you want, don't care - just make the supports sane please.

Well, there are pros and cons in your suggestion.

Pros:
- there will be less exploiting the support cave-ins for griefing;
- easier to build underground.

Cons:
- easier to grief the mine tunnels: break 3 supports for the price of 1.
- easier to build underground.

Just to put a drop of realism into the picture, lets say there is a 50 year old mine that has been worked for years, now the original supports have most likely prevented at least 1 collapse in the past and now 50 years later I put up new supports (all structurally sound) and take out the 50 year old supports, WHY would removing the old ones cause a collapse if the new ones are now properly supporting the area(s) the old once did?

I'm in support of being able to remove them safely if covered by other supports, I have a stunted towercap that I now have to live with for fear of causing a cave in if I try and remove it even though it has supports around it ... I find that extremely annoying tbh.

Forget realism just let me remove the things with no collapses .
