Lifting in Boats

You can lift objects in water while in a boat. It wont let you drop them though, so you can't rightclick the boat to disembark until you relog.

  • You can get riverlogs! Logging out drops them where you are, so you can bring them to the shallows.
  • You can murder boats! Pick up a boat on a claim while in a boat, leave the claim, log out and it will be destroyed.

You can put the log down in the boat's cargohold if you have space available, though. I actually cleaned up parts of the river leading west from brodgar the other day. :)

I know, and it should indeed not be possible to lift things from a boat. There should be a more formalized system of controlling which player actions are permitted under certain conditions (conditions such as fainted/dead/swimming/mounted/&c.), but I have not formalized such a system yet. It's coming, sooner or later.

Of course, it is convenient to be able to pick up river-logs, but one could argue that they should either not fall into a river to begin with, or at least be lost if they do. :)

Speaking as someone from a country where lumber is still frequently transported by water by heaving it into a river and then having people retrieve it downstream, it seems to me that it would make more sense to have log jams stop water navigation, and possibly lead to making deliberate defensive booms to block water traffic.

Lift items while in a boat

Postby ReaperSWE » Sat Jan 30, 2010 4:37 pm

You can lift items while riding a boat, be that another boat, or a log floating in the water.
You can't drop the item after lifting it, and if you logout it'll disappear.

Now you can rescue boats too! Ctrl-leftclick allows you to disembark while still carrying objects!
