Agreed that cairns should need some sort of active maintenance. This would most likely solve the fake/dummy/block Realm problem. Make it so that people living under them can do the maintenance themselves if the realm actually provides buffs for them.

Then the realm would have the option to either send the tax man (with some soldiers to have him come back) and do the job, or win the hearts of the subjects and have them do it.

Would still allow realms to be anti-social but the cost to misbehave would scale with size, while a realm with a kind leader would have the support of the subjects who'll see a point in spring the realm... Which in both cases boils down to a realm needing to attract enough similar minded characters to be able to expand into and maintain an area.

Would need some more fine ideas to make it hold together, like peasants not paying taxes should not receive the buffs.

Cairns already have an upkeep cost, sizeable realms would result in huge manpower needed to check hundreds of cairns spread over the world...

Why not make it so that everyone can repair the Cairns? Thus If the residents are happy, they can repair them themselves. If they are not and the kingdom is neglectful, they can watch them fall.

Perhaps in addition, if repair was needed, an advisor position can be made (much like the chieftain of legacy) that has the realm cairns displayed on their map, along with their % hp. This would save the issue of having to constantly check them, but still require upkeep to be needed - holding this position could cause further authority drain on the kingdom.

Object(s) Required Cloth x5, Block of Wood x15, Stone x30

are you kidding me ?
I thought it is way more expensive tbh,

I would propose following solution:

make new skill: Ruling
requirements: Lawspeaking, Basic Mechanics, Siegecraft
required for: Coronation Stone, Border Cairn activation
cost: 150k lp
each cairn have to be activated by realm founder ( or someone [?] ) with "Ruling" skill
My mother told me Someday I would buy
Galley with good oars Sail to distant shores
Stand up high in the prow Noble barque I steer
Steady course for the haven Hew many foe-men,
hew many foe-men

Actually that would only slow down response to a grief realm being built in the area, so no. Ability to raise a LS alt in one day was important to somewhat stop spreading Motherland.

Definitely no to this idea.

Your little larper entitlement is acting up man.

Where do you get the idea you can get any say in that while being irrelevant yourself in the perspective of kingdoms?

If you have a problem with who covers you, contact your friends to liberate you from another kingdom or start your own and expand towards your base.

Just a little sneaky ''you not getting my auth because I don't want :( '' is a bad idea and shame on you for even suggesting this garbage.

That would be the implication, a cairn running out of 'fuel' would no longer project the realm so it would neither collect the tax nor give the buffs).

Cairns already have an upkeep cost, sizeable realms would result in huge manpower needed to check hundreds of cairns spread over the world...

Either they already have an upkeep cost now and sizeable realms already have the manpower need - or they don't and the need would only come in case the cairns would get an upkeep cost.

Thus: 'have' or 'would' - what tense is it?

Let me just build a fake realm with resources that I can easily buy for maximum 5 tokens and build & palisade cairns around a village with 30 active fighters while im just a 1 single hermit and they can't do literally nothing about it and also can't get their own realm up, great system without any flaws :D :D :D :D

Hurr Durr Durr life is unfair, yes we know and it's unpreventable.

Interest of 30 person versus one hermit, he will always be at disadvantage.

Then we should streamline this, have a requester before entering the creation room:
Code: Select all
[ ] You play in a faction
[ ] You play with a group
[X] You play as a hermit

[ENTER GAME]
*click*

"You are dead."

Just because a hermit can't compete with a faction dosn't mean that mechanics that are exploited (by said faction(s) or whomever) are good or should stay as they are.

Stop burning strawmen.
