Game Development: Nothing but Testing

Postby jorb » Thu Oct 10, 2019 8:24 pm

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Test Server Combat Changes
-----------------------
  • Added/re-added 2d-effects to combat, importing many from Legacy, mostly as placeholders for now, but also drew a few new ones. The addition of 2d sprite animation worked better than we had dared hope, so we're pretty happy about this, considering the relative ease with which it allows us to create distinct graphical profiles for the various attacks/moves.
  • Added support for combat local buffs, i.e. things like balance and intensity from Legacy. Not doing much with it yet.
  • You now get the cooldown from Go for the Jugular even when you miss with it.
  • Can no longer activate Go for the Jugular or Haymaker when slowed.
  • Can no longer interrupt your own attacks by issuing a new attack.
  • Jump no longer gives effect if interrupted.
  • Adjusted the Combat UI to be more out of the way from the player.
  • You now get one IP from hitting with punch. No use for them yet, but their function as the real scoreboard in testing is undeniable. Will add tie-ins down the road.

As always, if you liked what we did here: Support the patch.

Today's Patch Item, for the fair price of $10, is the "Rhubarb-Plumed Helmet".

Store Description wrote:Image$10 A knight errant in shining armor, traveling garden plots far and wide in search for dragons, or catterpillars, to slay.

All Gold & Silver subscribers have been awarded the "Rhubarb-Plumed Helmet", free of charge.

Enjoy!

Cute patch i suppose. Any info on what other area of chsnge you’re going in the future with combat? Nee moves or similar? Since initiative is generated off of hitting the enemy, it couod be a fsr more interesting and powerful mechanic than what currently exists (Maybe rename it to Advantage?)

Also, since dash skills can be stopped by slows, there is good territory for a skill (low blow, punch the bollocks?) that slows people after being hit, providing a healthy dynamic for chase situations.

Also... thoughts on scrapping the archery system entirely as it exists and remaking it into an extension of the current combat system, with moves that can only be used if you have a now, but that are very long range?
the proliferation of automation is the rot of this game, with the next worst thing being the filth that plays it (you, probably.)

W7 - Hermit
W8 - Co-LS of R'lyeh, Owner of the Hermitarium Knowledge Group
W9 - LS of Niflheim
W11 - Hermitage (named Niflheim)
W12 - Hermit -> some rando ass village i forgot the name of that i joined
W10,13-15 - N/A

Archery is too slow realistically right now, it's only when you have massive stats and qualities that you can reliably aim, change aim directions, and land hits. If it were made quicker so that you could more reliably aim and fire in real combat situations I feel like an instant damage chunk may be too much. It could be cool if the first hit did a bit of dmg and a larger slow/reeling effect which would make follow-up hits deal more dmg
