haha... Be careful. Jorbtar might make it so you can aggro through trees. Nobody wants that.

Erratic and jittery enough in their flight pattern that they should present an obstacle.

Bat dungeons are the worst kind of cancer

Infinite spawn rooms that are just broken and actually never end, walls between rooms with a 1 tile gap followed by a ridge you can easily get stuck on forever (no ability to mine walls out to create more space), bats that spawn more bats that easily surround you completely even if you're moving around.

Pretty cool stuff

Small bats with no collision boxes would definitely help, but there are still tons of issues that keep me out of those hellholes

Ok, we can say their size is larger than real life bats, and that would explain why our insomniac talking-to-trees forest-running muscle-men/women characters should have their movement blocked my those bats.

But how about doing something so we can aggro them OR through them? Animals seem to be ignoring line of sight, meanwhile we can't aggro stuff if one of those pathethic little things is in front of us. My approach shouldn't be "blocked" by one of those things that require 2 hand slaps to get obliterated.

I can aggro through solid mine walls though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgujSgu0EV4.

I can't target aggro in bat dungeons cause *my approach is blocked*. I have to press TAB 200 times to switch the target in the custom client I'm using and hope to land on the one I want to target? How is my approach blocked while I'm already in combat with the bastard?

All the more reason for even dungeon bats not to block you. They are harder than anything else to click to target. A party of 6 I was in was wiped in the third bat dungeon I've done because we were surrounded by bats and could not pick our targets well enough to hit one actually blocking our path.

Earlier this world I was attacked by slimes while mining. They pinned me to a wall, I was able to kill one of the slimes, flee while closing, then kill the slime one-by-one with hit and run tactics. I would rather fight slimes than bats exactly because bats fly erratically, but can still body-block me.

Also don't understand how jitteriness would prevent a man from walking forward and pushing a foe aside, which is what i imagine walking through living things is meant to simulate. I DO understand a size argument if you want to make that.

animals should be a valid target for push with sufficient strength except instead of pushing them it disables their hitbox for a second or something idk

Good general suggestion, but doesn't really help with the "clicking on them" part.

Removing the hitboxes? bad (maybe). Fixing them and the game's combat ui? good.

And now the sequel, reposted from a discussion in the latest announcement thread, bumping this thread on request (it is relevant to the latest update).

5-man party that had cleared one bat dungeon previously. Get to an infinite spawn-key room. Our strongest man goes for the door alone, wrong key, gets surrounded. We charge in to extract, 3rd man in (me lol) gets surrounded by new spawns. The other four free the 1st one and retreat to extract the 3rd, 2nd man get surrounded along the way. 3rd breaks free and move to extract the 3rd, a fourth gets surrounded because GODS LIGHT DOES NOT SHINE HERE. 3rd is extracted, 4th shortly after, run outside the room, slaughter the stragglers with ease.

I now trust those people with my character's life. Getting surrounded by bats is a massive difficulty jump compared to being surrounded by any other mob. No KO's or deaths, this time.
