Dev's reliance on the custom public clients to make the game more playable and pleasant is sure biting their ass now.

Its not an ideal situation but the official client needs to be on par with basic custom clients.
Haven is going through growing pains.

Coming back after a long year of bullshit, the official client is getting a lot of good QoL upgrades, eventually it may be in good enough condition to actually use over a custom client. I can only hazard a guess that Loftar isn't intending to break all the custom clients but it's a natural consequence of updating the game with new features like resizable windows and other interface based changes.

If that's the case then Jesus Christ this place is really going to shit. I take it J&L have no stance on it one way or another?

I'm under impression that J&L are aware of that, but don't know how to non-intrusively intervene.

For example, they could just tell people to report extortion attempts but there's lot of grey area (is demanding in-game items like tokens or in-game items that, could be reasonably sold for tokens, fair game?) and possibility that people who are legitimately raided fabricate evidence that they're getting RMT extorted.

Almost any proactive solution would probably eat up too much dev time, too.

I'm not going to act like it's an easy issue to fix, There's not enough staff to handle the issue. I have a bias against RMT in general, even in the case of Haven where all you're getting is hats, verifications or subscription time, so take that into account as well.

An accusation is just an accusation; Unless there's proof of that interaction on the forums or in game in the form of a log or record. I'm sure most of these demands are being made on Discord because I don't think they'd be stupid enough to just message people on the forums or in game.

Aside from that logistics of "how" it gets handled, people like that are a blight to community health in general. I come back and forth to check on the game because I like it, but I'll be real with you if I got threatened to give some loser 20 USD to not get raided, I'd probably just tell him to get bent and post it on the forums and all over the Discord.

I don't think it'd be a problem if more people stuck with the game and had an interest in cleaning up extortionist bandits that make the game look like dogshit, but it seems like everyone gets fatigued, bored, or raided and they just give up and say "World X when?"

Nookrium's stream.

Look at the pains this dude is going through, and how much progress he manages to make (spoiler: none) --- before running into an abandoned plot, and soon after being found by a bunch of folks watching his stream. Note how clunky, unintuitive and uninformative the base client is.

Then realize that: 1) the dude is a seasoned indy game reviewer and has seen some crap; 2) has done his research and watched some tutorials (by his admission); 3) is streaming, so kind of has an obligation to stick through for at least a few hours. Your average new player would've given up long before that.

If you don't think it sufficiently answers the OP's question, you're delusional.

I wouldn't say he made no progress, in 2.5 hours he managed to dig a few pieces of clay and learn how to change his movement speed. Seems like a perfectly acceptable learning curve for an indie title that prides itself on tedium and obscurity.

Not trying to be mean, but trying to "grab" the kuksa by it's crafting menu icon is pretty bad, can't say devs are at fault here.

Chat is trying to give advice but some like (shift+click to put all in stockpile) is missing crucial context that seasoned haven player will, unconsciously, fallaciously assume it's obvious and he fails to figure out you need to grab the the item and right-click correct stockpile while holding shift. Something could be done to explain these basic controls. Also, nobody is telling him to gather Tough Bark from Willows to make Cordage, this is something you're unlikely to figure out, likely assuming all non-birch trees have generic bark.

00.27.24 Now we hit a big one: he assumes spices are required, not optional, when roasting meat. This is perfectly reasonable assumption to make, there's very little to indicate they're optional (tiny gap between "any meat" and "spices") I'd definitely support any reasonable change that would make this more obvious.

00.37.30 I think this was mentioned basically immediately when people stated making guides for the new combat system in w8: lot of people try to click the icons for moves that appear, having no idea that you use them with number keys.

00.38.30 He noticed, read and understood the KO ping, which to my knowledge is lot more than you can say about several players who've complained about dying to animals or other players because they "kept waking up and getting knocked down"

I am new to the game and I am plaing less becouse I can't get seeds of what I've planted - can't progress in wood quality and even can't get quality wood anymore. It is just waiting for summer now... and it's getting boring.
