Game Development: Fishing for Finery

Postby jorb » Sun Apr 25, 2021 10:10 pm

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Fishlines. The various string items previously passing for fishlines (e.g. "Spindly Taproot") are no longer the hot things to use. Instead, there are 8 new, craftable fishlines. When fishing, a visible line is drawn between rod and float, varying in color depending on the line used. The new fishlines can be carried in "Creel"s. Old fishlines can still be used as such, but you cannot equip them again. Keep your legacy rods safe. We debated wether the new lines should themselves count as "String", and they probably should, but that has some use case problems. Please advise.
  • Added "Turtle Shell Buttons", gilding.
  • Added "Sly Ear of the Fox", curiosity.
  • Added "Gray Grease", medicine for "Beesting", "Jellyfish Sting", and "Sandflea Bites".

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Added variable materials to "Finery Forge"s. They now take color and texture from the materials they were made from. Note that this implied a slight change to the recipe, which might have interesting quality implications.
  • Added variable materials to "Steel Crucible". They now take color and texture from the materials they were made from.
  • You can travel using "Thingwall"s while under the "Red-Handed" debuff. Oversight on our part. Pending. May still do this, but wanted to discuss it a bit first since it was controversial.
  • Fixed various animation problems primarily relating to the cape. It should no longer bleed through the character when carrying things aloft, and whatnot.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Increased size of "Ash" heaps from 0.5 to 1 kilogram.
  • Reduced passive water consumption of lit cauldrons. One full fuel meter should now burn through half (15l) of a cauldron's water meter.
  • Reduced boil time of "Ash" to "Lye" by 25%. Lye/Ash/Cauldron changes somewhat inspired by this rudely formulated thread. Kids these days.
  • Cleaned up the "Primitive Casting-Rod" graphics a bit. More reasonable size, fits better in hand. 2015 resource says hello.
  • Nerfed "Rose Gold Clasps" a fair bit.
  • Fixed various client crash and map import/export bugs.
  • Added a separate volume control for UI sound effects.

As always, if you liked what we did here: Support the patch.

Today's Patch Item, for the fair price of $9, is the "Temujin's Cap".

Store Description wrote:Image$9 Trampling thrones 'neath thundering hoof, the Khan of Great Tartary rides. All hail, the Khan of Khans!

All Gold & Silver subscribers have been awarded the "Temujin's Cap", free of charge.

In the Pipe
-----------------------
  • Will devstream during next week. Will announce time/date soon(tm).
  • Again urging any custom client maker who wishes to stay relevant to get with the new rendering times. Support for the old resources will be dropped at some point.
  • Our primary development direction is toward object-controlled-objects.
  • Time to... like us on Facebook?

Enjoy!

Pretty cool, when can we get visible ropes on hitched/leashed animals?
Waiting for something to happen? Everything is going to be okay.

I assume rod fishing has been affected by the new lines?

Thank the gods I already finished the fisherman credo.

You might aswell just remove tracking from the game at all, this is a very bad change.
