Where are Map Tiles Saved Now?

Postby Reyajh » Sun Aug 14, 2022 6:35 pm

Saving Map tiles to disk doesn't seem to do anything now. I don't see a 'map' folder being created anymore and creating one does nothing...

That's a custom client feature.

I guess, vanilla client stores map tiles in its resources in 'data' directory (files named like 00029562c26b8208.0 etc).

With default client or properly up-to-date custom client, press "Ctrl+A" to open extended map (press button to toggle off compact mode if that is on) and you will find buttons "Export" and "import"

"Export" will open a standard file save dialog to select a folder. Client will then take some time depending on the size of map (my map last world took 5-10 minutes, I had explored maybe at least 10% of the entire world?), you will get a compact file.

"Import" does the reverse, you get standard "open file" -prompt.

Main things this enables are A) backing up your map in case of hardware failure B) sharing your map with someone.

I appreciate the replies...
vatas, thanks so much for always being so helpful, and reminding me I at least have that feature!!! JnL should pay you :)

What I'm looking for is, there used to be (still is in my client) an option to "Save Map Tiles To Disk". It would create a folder in the HnH Main Directory called "map" and in THAT folder you would find the actual map tiles of each session, in their own time and date stamped folders, for each session of gameplay. From there you could stitch them together and create your own world maps to view, while outside of Haven, or whatever else you want to do with them.

I have all the actual tiles saved of everywhere I visited, for every world I've played in, going all the way back to world 6 or 7.

I hadn't thought of it, but I guess the extended map should arguably have a function to export the map as PNG or something.

Something like that would be awesome I guess, as long as the tiles aren't corrupted. I used to painstakingly go visit areas where my maps had corrupted tiles just to get a good tile of that area and replace the bad ones in my main maps. Also, with the actual 'tiles' it was always nice to be able to combine my maps with my friends maps, like how the online maps do, except I still use Salem Map tool :)
