weirdness trying to start game

Postby REWB » Wed Apr 17, 2024 12:49 am

Windows 10 Home, version 22H2, Java updated, Firefox, when I hit the red play button I only get a window that says

“autohaven-REWB(65).jar” is an executable file. Executable files may contain viruses or other malicious code that could harm your computer. Use caution when opening this file. Are you sure you want to launch “autohaven-REWB(65).jar”?

Clicking OK sends me to this web page

file:///C:/Users/av%20game/Downloads/autohaven-REWB(64).jar

Address is on my computer but it looks like a blank web page

firefox for some reason fucking sucks at giving you the file for the game so go to windows explorer, get the zip file, change the name of the zip file to autohaven.jar (remove your name or whatever only have autohaven.jar as the name), then creat a new text document and write in this:

start javaw -jar ./autohaven.jar

save it and give it a name like HnH Start, then right click the file, go to properties, change the .txt to .bat hit yes then open the bat and play haven, have fun mate.

I used firefox religiously for about a decade and then it kept on screwing things up that it really shouldn't be screwing up, so i moved to chrome.
chrome has it's own problems but the benefits outweigh them.. for now

Everything went good until I got to "Change to ".bat"

Hitting the change button in the properties of the tet document gives me app salections, choosing Explorer just shows "start javaw -jar ./autohaven.jar" at the top of the web-page.

Trying to "Save as" in the document doesn't allow me to change from txt to bat.

I'm going to try Chrome

oh make sure the actual jar file is on your desktop for it to locate it

one last thing make sure the jar file on your desktop is just: autohaven.jar

no numbers no name, just that, the bat file is looking for that exactly named file.

Now I'm getting a Java error saying it can't access the jar file. I'm starting it by using the "Run as Administrator"

Makes no sense but I tried it again and I got it to work by using the "Open" instead of "Run as Administrator" option!

Thanks for your help Lemon!
