An absurd comparison. When baby falls, most of the time it can try to get up again. If J&L fluff the HnH Steam launch is pretty much over, they won't fix it without investing money into it. It's basically one time chance, especially with their current knowledge about the Steam.

In this case, early access may be a better choice.

I mean... it's not like you couldn't have a point here. Maybe steam should be long-term stable instead, and we should run quick and fast worlds here?

Im in favor, this would make the steam thing a lot more hype than it currently is

I'm generally opposed, because the player base here formed largely around the idea of long term worlds working towards permanent ones.

I suspect the general player on steam these days is less the traditional MMO type and they prefer the new age survival genre.

I think we'll get a skewed response here for that reason alone, and although it may match player preference here, it'll be worse for the steam community.

I think both being accessible to both auth methods is the best choice in the long run personally. otherwise new steam players will likely never know about whatever the 'other' is unless its explicitely advertised on the main menu of the game.

I think having a good server selection page after login, before going to character selection is the key. and server tooltip clearly saying "This world starts on DD:MM:YYYY and is the main-line server that won't wipe for a long time" or "This server will wipe in approximately 3-6 months" etc will remove any of the confusion around it.

I admit we don't have data on this, but there are many other overwhelmingly successful games on steam with shorter season wipes in the 3-4 month range, like Path of Exile, and even shorter in the survival genre, like Rust.

On the other hand, there are two successful MMOs on steam that originally self published and then used F2P steam launches to get large influx of players (Albion and Eve Online), but both are nearly carbon copies of each other in their ingame economy, both heavily manually police botting, and Haven's economy and server lifespan resembles the former examples and has very little in common with the latter.

Some world of warcraft popular seasonal private servers such as ascension wow or even escape from tarkov do 6+ months.
I think if 3-4 or 6 month wipes happens, they should be done on the website version as opposed to the Steam one as the Steam version will more likely support newer players which will take the game a lot slower.

It is somewhat ironic that Mightysheep, famously one of the players to traditionally quit early in the world, and who literally quit playing Haven W15 to play Path of Exile (a short seasonal wipes game), is suggesting a steam permanent world would make him more hyped, with shorter worlds here.

If I were more cynical, I'd almost suspect he's trying to sidestep the steam issues with clients and multiboxing so he can have his preferred experience without those limitations.

Love the Steam launch.

But Jorp, we need better time frames on how long Worlds will run and how many Worlds you are looking to run..

This game requires an enormous amount of RL time.

When will W15 end? If it even is to end?

When will S1 start and how long will it run exactly?

If these basic things are not answered and you keep screwing around with people's RL time they will leave your paid hobby all together brother...

Just my .02

Again congrats on getting the game to the Steam platform.
