Although this isn't nearly on par with the fanmade one, it has some feeling to it. Why not just use that for the other steam icon too?

Eh, using artistic flair like this in the steam icon is fine. It's just a bad idea to use it for anything else.

Using a symbol that nobody uses is just bad practice for a game. Would minecraft have the exact same amount of success it has enjoyed if it were called m!n3cr@ft instead?
