cave dust normally does stack. do you mean in piles larger than .50? because if yours aren't stacking something isn't working right

I disagree, there is an "auto-stack" toggle.
If I didn't want to auto stack cave dust I'd turn that off.

Why the condescension already?
Yes and I also know how logic and toggling work.
Do you even know what "Toggle automatic item stacking" means?

Cavedust is a "powder." That is different from "stacks" and I think the more proper term is "heap" - when referring to the individual, variable-sized, individual inventory versions.

Yes, heaps are treated differently and will only stack for stuff of the same quality, otherwise when stacked manually they average their q, that also applies to crops seeds.

But heaps should also be subject to the auto-stacking toggle.
If that's off, then stack only same q.
if on, stack and average.

Some of us don't mind the averaging and the potential "loss" of some quality when going for quantity, like for filling a food trough from a balanced field, or crafting gilded nautilii for a whole village.
Those who want to micro-manage their stacks of dust or seeds should be the one having to turn auto-stacking off to optimize and do the stacking manually.

On a side note, a toggle wouldn't make sense if everyone have it [on] constantly.

Want the sprucie to write a tutorial for you on how to type [A] [T] [A] to switch auto-stacking toggle on / off when you pick dust from the ground? :|
