Locked myself inside first palisade

Postby deante » Mon Dec 02, 2024 8:42 am

Perhaps this is a bug, or this is just me being a complete noob.

How this happened:
While fishing I got a random metal lock (useful) and I stashed it for later use. Upon completing my palisade I immediately take and slap my metal fishing lock on my interior gate. I got no master key when I performed this action, it didn't fall to the ground, my inventory had 10 open spots. I'm now locked inside my palisade. I already had the locks and bolts skill before installing the lock, didn't have it when I fished up the lock. Now I have enough water inside (thankfully) to bash the gate down. But I wanted to ask, did I do something stupid or misunderstand the brodgar wiki?
If I bash my interior gate down do I have to worry about the cascade damage?
Respectfully a Laurel-head

did you check if the lock was already attuned to another key? if I remember right it does tell you that when you hover over it - if that's the case, you installed a lock that already had a key assigned to it, which is why you didn't get the master key, it was simply not a brand new lock.

Unfortunately not, I had never even considered the game would hand me a lock (which I had assumed came from a random drop table) to already have a key bound to it.

as random as it is, it was still a lock that some player has thrown into the water - meaning it's not the game that "made" the lock, it was a player who has gotten rid of it (or someone got rid of it for him). I'm 99% sure that this was indeed the case of the lock already being attuned, so best check the description of the lock next time :D

on another point, putting metal locks on palisade is a bit of a waste - since palisades cannot be lockpicked as such, almost everyone uses the wooden lock. if it's a good quality metal lock, you're far better off using it on a chest or other, lockable container.

yep, bad assumptions. Thanks for the time and explanation...welp the cascade took out my entire airlock and 30% of my walls. Learning experience for certain. Have a good one.
