House Deed

Postby kortigus » Thu Feb 13, 2025 3:56 am

Been thinking about how permissions work and came up with the idea for a House Deed.

A House Deed would be similar in how a Bill of Possession works.
Bill of Possession you stick on a liftable, and are given an associated tag. Having the related tag in your inventory gives you all permissions for it.
So a House Deed, you make and attach to a house you have vandalism permissions for, and it would give you all permissions when the related paper is in your inventory.
(If the door is locked you still need a key, or ability to pick locks, to get in though)

The main difference is that the deed would also be like the bond of blood and soil where you can inherit it and somebody can't just kill you and nab it from your corpse.

Q: So, why have the deed anyways? What's the point?
A: A lot of the time you need to have Personal Claims + Palisades within Villages in order to divide people's properties, forming a bunch of miniature bunkers. And while yes, that's obviously the most secure way of doing it probably, alternatives are not a bad thing to have -- and some people may value the pros even with the cons. So if it's not too much work, I think it could be a neat addition to the game.

Thanks for reading!
Give me some feedback! I'm definitely open to reasons as to why this could be a bad idea, especially if they can help turn it into a good one! (Saying it's a good idea is also welcome lol)

And to actually respond to OP idea:

Generally, more granularity/customization in the permission system = positive thing. Main concern is introducing new noob traps to the already complicated mess of building a secure base, both in terms of physical wall/gates and configuration of access. The OP thing presumably would only ever enable very niche exploit where you need to invite someone to your village, make them pclaim an existing house, wait until they stock the house with valuable shit, then reveal you have access to the house due to the House Deed.

Which always comes down to the actual developers of this game never playing the game, and, GOD FORBID, test anything they implement.

That's a fair concern and I hadn't thought of that, thanks for the input. In that case either a visual indicator should be present on the house if it has been deeded, or have a text indicator when inspecting the house to discover the same. New players could still fall victim to it I suppose, but having something there to indicate that a house does in fact have a deed should definitely exist (sort of like how a pclaim and vclaim has the bone totem thing.

*Edit*
Having their name show up based on Kin would also be very nice (simply showing ??? if you don't know them).
