Agreed. Hoping new siege system fixes this

I know people say "well just build your palisade 3x of the actual space you're using!" but that's annoying in that you end up using extra resources and your actual settlement looks strange with walls so far out, not to mention you'd have to worry about decay if it's outside of your claimed land.
I'm mostly a hermit and my main enjoyment in this game is simply making up my own little claim and organizing everything and basically just designing the layout of where I live and do my work. I hate to think of putting up a palisade because it just seems so "final" and kind of hampers my ability to redesign and expand things if I want to.
I realize that my playing habits are pretty atypical, but it would be nice to have something that at least afforded some protection without being basically set in stone like a palisade wall. The option to quickly destroy anything on your own claim would be really nice, however unrealistic so I don't expect that to happen. Even just the change of making a roundpole gate require vandalism to open would be enough to keep me happy for a little while. Something that doesn't make my area look like free pickings to everyone that walks by. I understand that if people want to steal from me that they're going to, especially if I have such low defenses, but some sort of middle ground would be nice as well.

Re: Allow claim owners to easily break walls on their claims
you can build your palisade with a gate by only building 1 initial corner post then ending with another 2 nodes/spaces away from your first so anyone building with a plan, even if its going to change later, will only build 1 initial cornerpost anyway and will still have thier gate at those same costs.jgudge wrote:I like this idea a lot.
I only have one question. As it stands, palisades and brickwalls require two cornerposts to make a gate, which is a fairly expensive investment for a mid-ranged player. Since this means that you'd be able to much more easily destroy wall segments, wouldn't the cost of investment on a palisade/brickwall be halved, considering you can knock out 3 sections, plop down another cornerpost for 50 brick and 5 wrought (as opposed to 300 brick and 10 wrought) and build a gate? This wouldn't apply to people planning on building a village with a solid wall and no gate obviously, but wouldn't this encourage a huge increase in bw's?
in world 5 I finished up my palisade just before the world ended...but when I started it it was much closer to my house as I hadn't expanded out yet so i had to do alot of extra building to get it out and around after I expanded my claim a way for me to have removed a section would have been nice. I ended world 5 without enough strength to damage a palisade with a ram, enjoy your laugh I don't care.
I love this idea, its way easier to reach the vulnerable spots from inside

I like the idea because as I'll often argue in threads about walls, keys, and teleportation, using walls isn't that helpful for the defendees without proper infrastructure. A raider only has to focus on getting through a wall once to achieve their objective; the people living inside the walls have to deal with the logistics of getting around their walls every day while they live their hearthlives.

Is this even a flaw? You didn't own that land or wall anyway. You own land and force others to use criminal acts once your personal or village claim extend over a tile. Before that, that's just another wall segment waiting to decay.grable wrote:The idea is great but I see a big flaw:
What if someone builds a huge walled area and certain parts aren't claimed (yet)? This means raiders can just build a private claim there and bash the pali/brickwall in no time.
If buildings on own claimed land are easier to destroy, it is more of an option than today to build a smallish brickwall first, and then expand on the wall as your need for space/massed resources/claim grows. In a setting where a layered wall gives substantially more protection than a one layer wall, it may even be desireable (and open the whole can of far-seeing city defence planning).

Mostly to non-consequential levels. The biggest abuse that I see from this is people foregoing gates in favor of bashing walls down and rebuilding them whenever they need to come or go. It's not like that matters though as 95% of everyone keeps the gate key on a key alt until they have a village claim and crossroad up.TheTylerLee wrote:its possible to abuse this
The main issue is that it kills off one of the last remnants of siege warfare currently and, quite frankly, that's not a worthwhile sacrifice to be made. Until siege mechanics are touched up, this idea really isn't viable.

Re: Allow claim owners to easily break walls on their claims
I think it would be good to lower the leather # for the palisade cornerpost to 7 needed. That would make it easier for the sort-of beginners to not have to get 20 leather from rabbits for 1st set of gate cornerposts and then another 20 for another. Instead, they would only need 14 leather for 1st set of gate cornerposts and 14 more for another.

I have no problem with the materials requirement, I just wish it were easier to destroy things that you've built on your own property.
I play the game more as a designer / city planner than anything else, and the prospect of having something basically "set in stone" with a palisade or brick wall is very limiting. That said, I doubt there will be an actual change made, just my observation.

In W5, It took me a few weeks just to get all the leather bc i couldn't find enough rabbits for hides and im not very good with the combat system against the creatures.cobaltjones wrote:I have no problem with the materials requirement, I just wish it were easier to destroy things that you've built on your own property
