There are different ways one can approach justice in haven. If justice means the enforcement of law, we can say it's universal because the hearthlaw is also universal. All players share the same set of rules, basically ensuring that life and private property are their unalienable rights. I'm able to steal stuff and kill people, but doing so is against those rights, which is why scents and nidbanes exist.
But if justice is understood as conceptions of what's morally right and wrong, then of course it will vary. What the OP seems to be studying is how different conceptions of justice coexist in an originally anarchic society. What I think he is asking for here are examples of how different forms of justice have been enforced by different factions in haven history.
I'd guess stories of rangers, world police, executions, faction neutrality etc would make good examples in this context.

Scents exist to revenge, they do not imply that there is some kind of global rights equal for everyone. Hafen's global rules are no bugabuse, no walljumps, no acc hacks and etc. - whatever J&Lo set up.
If you wanna speak of justice in terms of Legacy early worlds, it was present when factions were thinking that leaving the scents is the crime in general (here comes kills justified by theft scents left). Right now, the crime is to harm your own group.

They actually do, it says so on their skill text. If there's a crime, it's because some law has been broken.LadyGoo wrote:Scents exist to revenge, they do not imply that there is some kind of global rights equal for everyone.

I do not think you get it. Bc it says so on the skill text it doesn't mean it's a crime. Player determine that by themselves.

I mean it's a crime in-game, according to the hearthlaw. Of course it's not against the rules to use black skills.

Funny thing--Judaic law (eye for an eye) was practiced in such a way that if I enacted "justice" for the murder of a family member, the family of the target of my justice could seek to enact their own justice upon me.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Eye for an eye for an eye for an eye. Is this why justice is blind now?

Re: Polycentric Law and HnH
There is no morality or social system in haven past the:
might makes right
you're with me or you're against me
one of us trumps everything else as long as it will not hurt the group interests (and even then you can do shit if you don't expect to be caught)
the enemy of my enemy is a useful tool
the weak are better exploited by me rather than be exploited by my enemy
i will protect the weak if it pissed off my enemy but only if it's not too much work
everyone dies all it matters how many enemies you take down with you
Smaller groups might have their own rules but most of the time they don't matter since they are unenforceable past their tiny bubble of consensus.

Re: Polycentric Law and HnH
I think I manage to avert the "with me or against me" by being a moral pretzel.
