the chance of these hats becoming one day worth a lot of money helps the devs since a lot of people invest in the game that way.Granger wrote:The 'simple economics' (and the deluded people who think about them and money as God) is what is destroying the life support base for humans in this planet. Plus the store hats were not advertised as rare (or to not return) so speculators could leech on the mentally weak, they were ment to make the devs some income (which clearly is a slippery slope in itself as they destroy the suspension of disbelief by completely being outside the lore of the game) in a form that isn't a donation.

Well, given it's an "in game good," it should only be traded for in-game items. Subscription tokens count, so hopefully that will encourage people to trade hats this way so jorbtar does see some extra money from such trading.wonder-ass wrote:the chance of these hats becoming one day worth a lot of money helps the devs since a lot of people invest in the game that way.
As far as speculative investing being simple, though.... it's not even close to simple. It's a good way to throw money away, though.
Pretty much this. I think if enough people begged hard enough for certain things to return, they just might. Maybe, as posted above, it's in different colors or small changes. Maybe it's the same thing. Not sure I'd want to wager money on something game developers, in general, have been poor at following up on, ie "rarity of special goods." Digital goods aren't tangible like gold and platinum (or other rare metals) where we can only dig up so much in a given year. A computer can spit out a million copies in just a few moments.Granger wrote:Plus the store hats were not advertised as rare (or to not return)
Buy your hats, for sure. Everyone enjoys showing their personality (most of us do). I think it's absurd to expect any return on investment from such items, and a developer that encourages it is only setting themselves up for problems when the servers those items are tied to are eventually shut down. (No idea how Entropia is going to manage that.)

Re: Buying old hats
hats are very often traded for tokens ingame. rn a new store hat is worth 2 tokens prob could get price even higher to 3 tokens if the hat actually looks nice.MagicManICT wrote:Well, given it's an "in game good," it should only be traded for in-game items. only old hats that you cant buy from the store anymore is usually traded for real life $$. note ive seen high trades of up to 20/30 tokens traded for old hats so it is possible to trade old hats for tokens its just that nobody really does it.

Re: Buying old hats
Taken from the store, but should be reworded.
anyhow I'm 10/10 for recolored hats, skinned or add a badge or feather to it.
but the old hats should stay limited.
as a collector, I do buy hats because I like to own things other people cant :/
fk me right?
maybe Idk what this word means but normally...NORMALLY. limited meansEvery time we release a new patch for the game – and sometimes on other occasions! – we also release a Support Token – usually a Hat – which can be bought for some, limited, time after the release of that patch or event. If you like something we added or changed recently, or if you just want a fun hat, please consider Supporting the Patch!
Support Hats do indeed make you look awesome, but have no other tangible ingame effects.

I don't think this will change the bottom line since the tokens from the hat trade don't vanish but will likely be used later for their original purpose (thus they simply displace a subscription transaction in the shop).MagicManICT wrote:Well, given it's an "in game good," it should only be traded for in-game items. I had completely forgotten that casino with micropayment.(No idea how Entropia is going to manage that.)

Re: Buying old hats
tbh, all the tokens i purchased or traded for never once were used for its actual purpose to add sub time.. i just felt that subtokens traded "in game" were worth more. besides why spend 10 on a token when i could spend 14 on silver and get a nice hat with it?.. tokens are more or less just a currency to me. i have traded multiple tokens for older store hats and vice versa, trading hats for tokens, and i agree. old hats should not come back unless they were changed somehow to look different.Granger wrote:I don't think this will change the bottom line since the tokens from the hat trade don't vanish but will likely be used later for their original purpose (thus they simply displace a subscription transaction in the shop).MagicManICT wrote:Well, given it's an "in game good," it should only be traded for in-game items. Re: Buying old hats
You'd have to ask jorb or loftar about how many tokens get cashed every month for sub time. I don't have access to such information. We do have a wide audience from around the world and the sub time can be a bit much for some of them.blank wrote:tbh, all the tokens i purchased or traded for never once were used for its actual purpose to add sub time.. i just felt that subtokens traded "in game" were worth more. besides why spend 10 on a token when i could spend 14 on silver and get a nice hat with it?.. tokens are more or less just a currency to me.
It's worth noting that if the token value is staying somewhat consistent, then it's likely that as many are going out of the system (getting used, lost) as being added in. If the supply was increasing, the buying power of a token would deflate.
