Here's the problem. You think you're justified in killing him because somebody loosely affiliated with him took something from you. That's great. Some may agree with you, others may not. The problem thus, is that if they can get somebody out to range, who agrees that you're not in the right for killing non-thieves, then you will end up dead too.
You see this a lot in this game and it always confuses me. This game is as much political as anything else. Can you do it? Sure. Should you do it? Perhaps not. You really need to think carefully about your actions because they can have repercussions even if what you did was fair. Having the attitude that you can do whatever you want will quickly get you killed.
