That's how it works. Item quality caps the boost you can get from a high quality gilding
I realize that it is softcapped, but there should be a bonus and not just a cap for using a higher q article of clothing.
Such as if a bear tooth gives +7 str when gilding a q40 bearcape could apply a 2x multiplier to this bonus, and a q90 a 3x multiplier. As of right now a q40 item can get the same bonus plus or minus one or two as a q90.

Only one I've found is precious details: goldbeater's skin, two nuggets of any precious metal

Hardcaps, as in a q40 item hardcaps any gildings you use to their q40 values?
ffs it's right there in the OP

The qualities of Gilding items are always softcapped by the quality of the equipment they are gilded onto.
Are bear capes and lynx capes now completely useless? You would be better off using a straw hat and bat cape for mining instead of bear capes. Am I missing something here?
Ingame: Kingtrin
W3-7 Hermit Supreme
W8 Seargent Derp: The Un-kinned Kinslayer, New Brodgar
W9 Lieutenant Sprucecap: Militia Commander, New Brodgar
W15 Satellite Hermit: Whatever Bay
W16 City Slicker: Whatever Bay
imo 2 slots items like bear or lynx cape should give twice the bonus.
If I want mining gear it's better for me right now to make a straw hat and a bat cape gilded with bear tooth than using a bear cape
edit : wtf exact same idea at the same time as the poster above:)

Thanks sabi, I did read the op (a couple of hours ago) but missed that. A lot of the time this info is hidden anyway for us to guess (like what the fuck gives what).
One good thing about this patch is that items finally show what stats they give/take

Maybe, but bear cape has strength gilding so you are more likely to gild two or more strength boosting gilds

But how many of them ARE there? There can't be more than two that give strength.
It's a nice a update overall. The clothing customization feature seems fun to explore. I'm assuming it also changes the equipment's appearance?
[*] Claim shields can now be attacked by shooting at houses. House walls should no longer be a thing, if ever they were.[/list]
Thanks for mentioning it. Please increase tower soak so that we can make impressive fortresses with them as walls. Or add locks so that we can start completely removing walls from the game.
