Re: Limit number of characters per account.
If it was really detrimental to the servers loftar probably would of fixed the problem with a solution of his own by now. This isn't the first world where people spammed alts.cobaltjones wrote:ewlol wrote: Can you explain to me how spamming chars is a BAD thing that constitutes abuse? Thanks for taking the high road with your replies guys.cobaltjones wrote:I'm no programmer so maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like hundreds and hundreds of basically "junk" characters spawned (multiplied by dozens of accounts) would have some sort of strain on the server or database or at least be a generally bad thing for making things run smoothly...

I was simply using the quote as an explanation and example of what spurred my interest in the idea. Never once did I say that there was abuse, simply that the idea of spawning 300 empty characters seems like a waste and that it might be detrimental to the server.

It is not detrimental to the server. :)

Just wanted to put this out there, I found Q62 clay on my first spawn this world.

Yeah, alt-spam is in no way required to find high Q resources. I found Q 62 Soil, by pure luck, on my first char.

Re: Limit number of characters per account.
I see two things, character slots, and simultaneous accounts on one computer.
Although people can legitimately run virtual machines and macro on said VM...
The only number of character slots needed is 5 I think... Any more and you basically use them for other uses other than being a main character (farming alts, etc.).
Clearly, there needs to be a session ID for each account and it should take the ip involved.
Rather than letting people multiclient as they wish, improve on the log out functionality so you can switch accounts faster.
So if multiple accounts are logged on, and all of them come from one IP, then you can force logout on the "older" session clients.
Obviously people can spoof their IP address... But why would they bother if they play the game normally?
Why would anyone bother at botting a alpha game anyways?

No, but that doesn't mean others can't exploit it. In game design, don't you have to follow certain rules when it comes to securing your own game?loftar wrote:It is not detrimental to the server.

and what about multiple people in the same household who play? do you honestly think that all this hasn't been discussed before ad nauseam?dra6o0n wrote: Clearly, there needs to be a session ID for each account and it should take the ip involved.
