Well, Charter Stones were meant to address that. And in the end, I guess they pretty much did in their own special way.

Re: Hows it going guys?
Very interesting thread, my thoughts so far:
* Need stronger animals, at some point you're just getting bored killing things, animals running is really the only pain in the deal or carrying a boat
* I do indeed wish technology was downplayed a bit more in certain aspects (like fast travel), however something to replace it seems near impossible as is, and I certainly wouldn't want marching to do it.
* I'd really appreciate better village management instead of requiring it to be completly thought out by the player (If you want multiple LS need to make a shared account with it, same with chieftain ; Only 2 people can add new people to the village unless you do the shared-LS ; Very tedious Authority/town expansion)
* I'd love to see some way of gaining a larger Authority radius based on active players.
* Caves/Mines/Water have no danger, something to attack us or pose danger in these environments would be very nice
I played previously about 8 months ago on a seperate account but didn't actually get far.

Hmm... Ok yeah I guess having people spawn in civilized areas but not exactly on the RoB could provide a slightly different experience, would be interesting to try it.
What do you think about also allowing towns who build charter stones to control whether their civ radius is spawnable or not?

well i guess you haven't been around lately but they had these charter stones that towns could build to let new players spawn there. it didn't work out very well.Yolan wrote:I've given my reasons why, and I think they are pretty good ones.sabinati wrote:spawn in civilized areas? what the hell is wrong with you?

That sounds good to me. I actually reckon civ radius default should be non-spawnable.theTrav wrote:

It's just that right now I think town management/security is really unfinished, and a result of that is an increased need for people to hide out somewhere from everybody else.

We had one in New Brodgar. It didn't work out very well.sabinati wrote:

However, does that mean we are limited to dispersing them randomly over the entire world? I wonder how many people we loose because they get bored stuck out somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Or how big our towns could get if new players started somewhere near civilized areas, and we had better town management.

Re: Hows it going guys?
yeah if there was (much) better town management i could see charterstones being viable. i still don't think a default civilization spawn is a good idea though. it should be opt-in (by building a charterstone) only.
also, i had a lot of fun with my wilderness alt when they first introduced wilderness spawning.

I think the problem with the charters stones is they are efficiently 'spawn random prisoner and/or murder victim here', rather then popping in right at these things it should be the general area but outside existing settlements so people are free to come and go and make their own settlements in the general area if they wish and without the high degree of vulnerability introduced by having them spawn in one single spot.

Sounds like you mean "town property" should be unspawnable.Yolan wrote:That sounds good to me. I actually reckon civ radius default should be non-spawnable.theTrav wrote: What do you think about also allowing towns who build charter stones to control whether their civ radius is spawnable or not?
"Town property" being a separate, and much more solidly defined quantity to "civilisation radius".
I agree with no spawning within the town property. What if civilisation radius defaults to on(or off), but can be toggled if someone builds a charter stone.
That way you can have people spawning near (but not in) towns, and towns can isolate themselves if they really want to.
On a tangent, how do you feel about hearth secrets? Did they provide more benefit than the exploitation has created pain?
Totally agreed. rams were a good start but not putting hard constraints on them seems like a mistakeYolan wrote:It's just that right now I think town management/security is really unfinished, and a result of that is an increased need for people to hide out somewhere from everybody else.
