It's not just about tossing a sign on the building, sweetie.

Not sure if want, not if it means that ONLY the Lawspeaker can have it. Don't impose your playing style on others, if I want to build it I shouldn't have to go and make my own village or be leader just to have one.

Ahh, how bout you be able to make a "Cave Home"?
Built into side of cliff, chip it out with stone axe or pickaxe, you get the idea.

Also, here's an idea I slap on: Modular Exterior Design Facilitation Usage Rig (MEDFUR). Or quite simply, houses you can see the inside of from the exterior.

I think they gave it a good try long long ago before the server was public (I saw some screenshots) and ran into some barriers.
Hm.. I still don't get why modular houses are so hard.
Start real simple - just walls and a flat roof. 1 Floor only.
Structural integrity? Screw that ;P

there has to be some rule that prevents someone from building multiple castles in the same area because of its size and strenght.

Why are there no brick buildings? (other than the brick walls).

And how hard would it be to have a few slightly different designs for the building (just the sprite) that the player selects when building. So they would all be identical inside but just a different look on the outside.

It's precisely the outside that is problematic. It takes a while to draw something so relatively big.
