Happiness and alts

off-topic: can I use this as my sig? I loved it

to commit suicide in HnH there are 2 things you can do:
1-get the swimming skill and actually try to use it
2 get naked and go slap a bear/boar

if you do you'll have a bunch of people telling you other ways, but go for it if you want.

as far as using something to disadvantage bots/alts: if theres a way for a player to do it, theres a way for a bot to do it with less work! so nothing you add to the game to get rid of bots(short of stupid bot checks) will work, and killing alts with unhappiness is just bad. as I said before everyone needs atleast 1 alt, but to fully enjoy the game you'll have to make 2 or more.

My main, profound and maybe abstract idea was about something that makes you live your heathling's life and that way making a second would require all your atention..
making the learning-curios system to work only while online would only end in +500 online players. I don't want to change the curios system couse I like it, it's original and

my intention is to end the easy leveling of alts. making another character to be a farmer or miner or something should require playing like starting a new world (maybe with a LITTLE help of your main)

that is because the game was left as it is now but I don't think they'll leave it like that and don't do anything about it.
using alts for keys are the only way now but later I think they'll repleace the keys system or make them ethereal or something, why the claims are inherited and not the keys? i would say that claims are material in some way too.

I personally hate the happiness idea, but I can think of a solution to the job issue relating to happiness. Someone early on pointed out that a farmer will do repeated farming, miner - mining, etc. and shouldn't farming make a farmer happy? So, what if when creating our character, we choose a profession: Warrior, Thief, Cook, Seamstress, Farmer, Miner, Explorer, Tracker, etc. Maybe you could even choose up to two professions. There could also be a last choice for noobs or people who like to do everything with one toon, something like jack of all trades or whatever.

If you choose say farmer and Cook, then your happiness will not go down when grinding in these areas, in fact, it could go up. You can still do other things, but if you grind in something outside your profession, your happiness will go down. As for jack of all trades, to choose this you risk your happiness lowering anytime you grind, but at a lower rate.

This could also open the door to profession bonuses or whatever.

I think they will kill you if you mention the proffessions idea again (this game is going the opposite direction)
besides, it's not necessary, it can be based on your stats and would be the same.. but it doesn't make sense.. it doesn't fit with the discovery system either.
edit (add): I think classes or professions would restrict a lot :/ and how do you think it will resolve the problem?

Just because you choose a "profession" does not mean you are locked into it. You can still do anything in the game. It just would mean that if you choose say farming, you would get happy with farming and unhappy grinding something else. I never, ever would condone locking us into professions. I love to have the freedom to do it all with one toon if I choose to.

-i think that tying happiness into real game mechanics is actually a good idea
-maybe make happiness work like black bile does for studying in salem, i.e. it gets used up as curios get depleted. since happiness has a hard cap the speed of studying cannot go unboundedly high and max speed is in fact the same for all characters.
-i think obviously the things that create happiness would have to be reworked, punching frogs should not allow you to study more
-instead doing things that your character is GOOD at for X amount of time per day should make you happy, allowing you to choose a profession. This should obviously be capped so you don't get instantly happy by making 1 cake at 1000 cooking, etc.
-please invent more sensible functions, sqrt doesn't cut it
-Things that don't require skill should not make you as happy, although perhaps this requires a bit of tweaking since building fortifications making brick art etc doesn't require high skills but people should still be able to study while doing this... maybe.
-Very repetitive actions which don't consume/transmute real resources should not make you happy.
-i think that something like this worked out in sufficient detail would hopefully mitigate the alts problem that curios create, although i haven't worked it out in enough detail i know. it means if you want a combat alt you would need to actually go out and hunt on it, at least.
-the reason i don't want to get rid of curios entirely is that economically speaking they are wonderful since they provide a heavy sink for nearly every resource in the game. consumption of resources is really needed to combat meaningless botting, or at least it seems that way to me.
