Can't we just use village chat instead of irc?

Who said that we wouldn't use village chat? Village chat is for in game matters while IRC is for just general chatting and perhaps town matters. We can always use both.

Whoop, I spoke too soon. I had already accepted an invitation from Wayneville to join, I was under the misunderstanding that their invitation was in jest but it turns out they were for reals.

Oceans wouldn't work... we dont have a map ... or even stars and a sky to navigate. You would be instantly lost. You could go in a perfect straight line I guess.. or never be able to find your way back. Theres simply no way to navigate other than guessing.
