I think is not smart to go out with keys in hand. We can have a second account with an alt to open tha gate to go out and open again to get back inside, that is if still can not make cross roads.
Is less to loose to get a toon killed than it killed plus all we have stolen and/or griefed.
Also to fish, to go get clay, or any outside resources I think is better have an alt too. This way if it gets killed, we only loose what was invested into the specific skill (if any needed), not a lot of LP.

being afraid is not a bad thing, in fact it means your play the game right, to have a few alts for anything risky and lose that side of the game to risk things...
I like to bring my main right up to walls and talk with people, its fun
