Hm. But maybe you're right. Maybe it is that St. Thomas and Aristotle, five hundred years after being buried, have been reborn, and are younger and livelier than the old Descartes and the ancient Sartre. Maybe we can breathe some life even into that holy old windbag.
I have no illusions of age. As i did reply I by default included myself in such statement.
Well everyone's journey is different and unique. Trying to define something that is ever changing and personal is a disservice to what it is and says. One can only express the importance of the venture because the venture is part of the destination and to separate the two devalues the whole.GenghisKhan44 wrote:I am reminded of a particular chapter in "The Great Divorce". As I already said the meaning of life is whatever you make of it. Yes relationships are part of your journey from the lowly spider to every Human interaction. That is part of the journey. So my advice to you all is have a good journey, your destination will come soon enough. Who knows maybe you will then begin another journey. We are a speck in infinity and we have only just begun.

Well, all those journeys start from one place and all of them ends at 6 Feet Underground. You may cry about uniqueness of your personal way, but... you know - there 7 billions of like the same "unique" bone-bags on this little planet... So better "Stop f**k with anyone's mind" and go straight...LadyV wrote:Well everyone's journey is different and unique.

Life is a pendulum swinging between the pain of not having what you want and the boredom of having achieved it.
While mortals are alive, they worry about death.
When they are full, they worry about hunger.
Theirs is the great uncertainty.
But the tree grows
and spring comes
nonetheless.

Some people literally go through life on autopilot. Friends and I during deep discussions have simplified the concept. We define people as PCs and NPCs.anderako wrote:There's not just no point, you don't even have any control over your actions, neither do I nor anyone else.GenghisKhan44 wrote:you don't believe there's any real point to your actions, or mine, or anyone's

Re: The Meaning of Life?
There has been many views of what is the meaning of life.
In ancient Greek wise philosophers were philosophizing with the same question,
some of them thought that the meaning of life is to be happy.
And being happy is achieved by living a virtuous life.
You can also think meaning of life from many other perspectives,
perhaps the most popular of them is religion. In some religions,
such as Christianity, meaning of life is to worship your god and be saved.
But in others, such as Buddhism, meaning of life is ultimately to achieve nirvana,
and escape from the cycle of endless suffering and rebirthing.
In these days, most of people would probably answer something like
"Meaning of life is to be happy and chase your dreams", or to do the good and right things.
Some people can't take any questions very seriously and answer something dumb (Like dank memes)
I personally think that life generally doesn't have any deeper meaning at all.
I dont mind if some other people come up with some meaning for their life.
As long as they dont cause any major harm for other people im okay with it.
After all, it doesnt matter at all. We are only teeny tiny meaningless piece of the universe.
Without a doubt, humans will be wiped off at some point, sooner or later. After that theres nothing left of us.
No one even knows that we existed for a tiny friction of time in universe's scale.
But I still don't think that its a good or acceptable idea to go and do whatever the fuck you want only because it doesnt matter.

This also seems very funny to me. Again, y'all aren't stupid. You don't believe in a flat earth, or that some genie-god just nodded his head and "popped" animals into existence.Jalpha wrote:Some people literally go through life on autopilot. And yet what y'all are saying to me is that the same natural laws that bind ants to build colonies and trees to grow towards the sun (and roots toward the water table) also make humanity to:
* build cities
* build villages to spite the cities
* build hermitages to spite them both
* sacrifice live human beings to fictional gods
* save human beings from fictional gods
* fight over land
* fight over shiny rocks like gems
* freely give land to others
* freely give up their shiny rocks to others
* start the Franciscans and the hippies
* start Colonial Imperialism
* start anti-colonialist protests
* start exporting Western values to Africa and Asia
And this self same natural law also absolutely, inviolably, directs humans to:
* make religions that say there is only one God
* make religions that say there are many gods
* make religions that say there are no gods at all
* make religions that say it doesn't matter
* make anti-religions that might say any of those things
* say that we have innate, natural rights
* say that rights are only given to us by an human government
* say that human rights do not exist at all
* live for the pleasure of the moment
* despair of happiness or meaning in life
* live under a natural law
* live under a Divine law
* then live for no law at all save that there are positively no moral laws.
And that all this explained by "nature made me do it".
Too damn funny.
