I kind of want to ask 'What's wrong with world 7?' but I'd probably just get a big spiel with a lot of exaggerated statistics, extrapolated from the opinions of one group that comprises less than 1% of the userbase, combined with some wildly inaccurate generalizations that only apply to 1% of the game world, so it doesn't really seem worth doing... (You know World 7 is really big, and almost everything in it is mutable, right?)
Anyway, strictly speaking, Loftar didn't rule out a world reset of the current game world and server, he just said that Hafen comes first. If I really wanted to, I'd read into that that Hafen development might be delayed after release, in which case the current world might be reset... although I can't imagine why that would be if they were still focused on developing Hafen. The reason why world resets used to be more frequent was because new stuff was being added and things were being changed, not just 'because the world has been around for a long time'.

Compared to the beginning when there's a lot of activity and unintelligible smack talk?Massa wrote: Do you like this phase of the world? No activity and the little there is is unintelligible smack talk.
Me, I'm an explorer. i like to find things. In a world that doesn't grow, there eventually is nothing left to find other than decaying claims, and even that gets old after a while. I don't like world resets, though. It's not hard work building up a character to moderate stats, but it's still repetitive work. When I don't have a base to build up quickly from, it's discouraging.

If world/region events were a thing resets wouldn't have to happen in the first place.

Well, the thing about a sandbox game is that you don't need world and region events to encourage game playing. The game itself should be enough. What can you do to keep people fighting, though, when one side is dominating?nicedudesmoke wrote:If world/region events were a thing resets wouldn't have to happen in the first place.

I think there's an inherent problem there in that no game is ever enough on its own.MagicManICT wrote: Well, the thing about a sandbox game is that you don't need world and region events to encourage game playing. The game itself should be enough.

It's not just a sandbox game though, is it? There's a heavy survival element involved that wouldn't be straying too far from the original spirit of the game if it also involved "nature" elements.MagicManICT wrote:Well, the thing about a sandbox game is that you don't need world and region events to encourage game playing. Garry's Mod on Steam is enough on its own, players make ALL of the content. That is the dream of a sandbox.Kaios wrote:I think there's an inherent problem there in that no game is ever enough on its own.MagicManICT wrote: Well, the thing about a sandbox game is that you don't need world and region events to encourage game playing. I agree. It's clear that this is a survival game, but different people interpret that description differently. Many seem to think that means you have to survive in a game where everyone wants to kill you and that's it. But one can also see that as a game where you also have to survive against the environment, dealing with hunger, weather, decay maintenance, and so on.nicedudesmoke wrote:It's not just a sandbox game though, is it? Better hunger mechanics and actual scary weather events like droughts and plagues would make the PvE side of the game more interesting. Having to store food to survive the winter, for example, or suddenly finding out you can't plant tea for a month - that would be neat and would not deviate from the game's description.
