Original map tile: size 16 kb.
Each login the server send from 4 to 6 minimaps tiles.
16x6=96 96x500=48mg
The login of all players use 48 mb, if those player connect only 1 time.




Same map tile in 20 colors: Size 7kb
7x6=42 42x500=21mb
Still a lot.




Same map recolored like if there is no texture, keeping all icons: size 4kb
4x6=24 24x500=12mb




Not bad, uh? Well....it's still a lot for a homemade server, but if haven & hearth wanna send us GRAPHIC, it's the only thing we can hope, the optimize of the minimap. Dunno why, loftar don't think it could be a problem. I think that there are lots of problems, but the minimap is the easiest to solve and give lots of vantage.

if you wanted to do something like that last minimap it's just best to let the client generate them and ignore not put it server side, but then again the downfall of that is client side can only see a radius of ~40 tiles from your char's spot for game objects. So you'd have to leave out trees,houses,ridges (and re-implement them via a radar system)
