Well I still don't understand what a hearth vault really is

why?
given that ONE person does need to by skills, he could make infinite copies of recipes and hand them out to his community, then they would not need to learn the skills. i.e. he would give all the recipies concerning tailoring to the tailor, the tailor then does not need to buy leather working or cloth making because he already knows the recipies, why would he bother.
the same goes for any profession.
given hermits would be exempt to this flaw because they live alone and have no need to use this method, unless teaching alts a few things.
please, if you have a way to circumvate the problem i have pointed out, by all means, do so. i would love a way around it

Since having the skill is a prerequisite for crafts, knowing the recipe is not enough. For instance: you can know the recipe for making a backpack, but you would still need to learn leather working before you could make one.

that would easily work, and fix the problem, but if you had to by the skill then the only good recipe sharing would do is just skip the discovery part of things, which was wat i was kind of getting at. for alts they dont really need to discover stuff, just have the recipe to build high q

possibly. that's the first one ever, though. i don't think that exploit was known at the time. i can't remember how they got in, it wasn't by breaking the walls though.

IIRC Onionfighter spawned an alt inside (via spamming), and then used him to port in his hearth (this was back when hearths were liftable, right?).
