This is a very inaccurate statement. In EVE even hi-sec is not safe. There are just more hoops to jump through, but players will go through the effort if the reward is great enough.MagicManICT wrote:If all you did was work out of hi-sec, then you really didn't expose yourself to PvP.

IMHO it goes deeper, perma-death (both for characters and, in case Jordancoles wants to make another exploit demonstration video, villages) as is now is the root cause.Carebear wrote: The root issue is that PVP and Siege are flawed.
In case one would suffer from the effects of death for a week or two it would be OK and you could see sense in going out of your walls and continuing in case of character death, but as we have now that you suffer from death for months (or even the rest of the world) the consequence are alting, care-bearing and active player count lowering from quitting after death...

I don't think you can blame low player count on permadeath... Has anyone done any statistics how many players have actually quit, because of dying to anoter player? Players are mostly quitting, because of boredrom and because simply they don't like what the devs are doing with the game, I can only guess like 1 out of 30th quit is caused by combat or getting killed by player. Sure, the statistics might be bigger if you count of how many have quit, because of their base has been leveled to ground, etc... but that is an whole another sieging problem, pvp has nothing to do with it and you shouldnt mix pvp/combat in it as most of these "i want combat toggle into my client" people do. Blaming combat/pvp for low player count in a pvp/permadeath game is not right smh.Granger wrote:In case one would suffer from the effects of death for a week or two it would be OK and you could see sense in going out of your walls and continuing in case of character death, but as we have now that you suffer from death for months (or even the rest of the world) the consequence are alting, care-bearing and active player count lowering from quitting after death...Carebear wrote: The root issue is that PVP and Siege are flawed.

Since we met you have been a pvp player, and you have probably played for longer than me. So you are sided with pvpers at this respect. I can tell you how people leave after they get killed. Hermits in previous world that gather some nice stats and skills in their small place sudenly get killed by people just for the laughs and barely no reward. They havent a good industry or a fast way to recover they chars or what they have lost and simply quit. A small amount of players decide to stay when this happens. In my old village we got atacked twice by DIS for no reason. The first one they just broke through the pallisades and stole some shitty stuff, everything worth was stored in alts. The second time they tried to kill us outside our walls without a single word before. We managed to survive, but they came later again with a pallibasher and tried to steal more stuff. I think they got just some bags. The first time we got raided i stoped playing for a couple of days. The second one made me go faster to finish the brickwall. And they killed other neighbours that had stoped playing.
I like the permadeath system, but thats not somethinga everybody share.

Nice stats and no defenses such as palisade or brickwall, that would give him more than enough time to log out and save his characters? I see more of this as lack of motivation to build proper defenses, it is only common sense.pedorlee wrote:Since we met you have been a pvp player, and you have probably played for longer than me. Not an problem of pvp/combat, it's a problem that they don't have consequences. And as I experienced in last world, these noob killers would often get tracked down and get killed themselves as consequence and there are groups people who like to track down these noob killers just as me and there are already TONS of mechanics compared to the last world.(scents,redhanded,outlaw,nidbanes,etc...) in place that make this for the PvPer not just worth the time to kill the noob without an reason nor I see this happening anymore on the scale of last world.get killed by people just for the laughs and barely no reward.
So you're saying they got an nice char that got killed and can't recover without industry which they don't have. How did they get good char in first place if they don't even have industry? If their industry got killed afterwards then it's an problem of sieging/raiding not an problem of combat. They havent a good industry or a fast way to recover they chars or what they have lost and simply quit.
Problem of sieging system, not combat. We managed to survive, but they came later again with a pallibasher and tried to steal more stuff. I think they got just some bags. I'm pretty sure everyone is aware that it is an permadeath game and they should be ready to feel the permadeath on their skin if they start playing this game nor I saw an big problem of this last worlds when most of the players could deal with it. And there is an problem with the death mechanics, at which I largely agree with you - I don't like either that you lose all your stats what you have grinded for several months in few minutes that is when death mechanics come in place, on which they are working on right now.I like the permadeath system, but thats not somethinga everybody share.

Re: Keep your autohearth on! (An Complaint About PvP)
I was talking about hermits and people in general, not just pvpers. For a casual or a player who has just started its very difficult to get to bw stage when some people get palibashers at the first month or first month and a half.dafels wrote: Discussion
Some hermits get nice stats like 100 farming and enough agi and ua or mm to fight and kill animals, but then they get killed by noobkillers. This has happened in a lot of worlds, not just this one. There is more countermeasures against noobkillers now, but if they are in a big faction its quite difficult to deal with them.
This game scalation betwen knoledwge, dedicated time, rise of atributes and skills its quite high. Surviving to it when there is strong people who knows how to play from previous worlds and use this to kill new players obviously leads to a mass abandoning in such harsh circumstances. Rising again a char until 100 farming, or 50 can take weeks for them. Also in previous worlds with a bit of carrot farming and exploration you could allways find better curios than in this one, so you could rise faster. But even in that situation a lot of people left.
Ive known a lot of people who has left the game because of this. You cant deny it, its an important factor.
Of course there must be a big space for pvp because this game is also about it, but i dont really get your post. If someone can flee with autohearth, why dont you use autoattack? Also, what happens with constitution? Im quite sure that it affects running and swiming. IF you have a titan you are gonna prolly caught them after a bit of running.
Also I agree with you and ranger: something should be done about it. 2 weeks, or back to a similar system like the previous, where you could get at least the 25%... Dont know at all.

I was also talking about hermits too, hence I mentioned palisade which is quite easy to build for hermits and what happens to the base is more of an sieging problem.I was talking about hermits and people in general, not just pvpers. Yeah, I see you don't get it , watch more carefully the videos in the topic, notice that I'm trying to aggro a person who has an autohearth which makes it almost impossible to aggro an person. And autoaggro won't solve this if you know how autoaggro works.Of course there must be a big space for pvp because this game is also about it, but i dont really get your post. If someone can flee with autohearth, why dont you use autoattack?

From this i cant tell if your playing the same game as us or even able to understand whats going on. the video clearly show auto attacks dont work because of a range limiter discussed last 7 pages and bringing death into is weird because they already said they going to work on that next so we will see results in a week or 2. and 2 seconds of checking wiki or forums tells u con affects swimming longer thats it.pedorlee wrote:

on topic, im waiting fer a few weeks to see if they have listened to any of us about anything. i will assume once death system is brought in they will change auto hearth timer as that is logical, but alas i worry that we might see more squirrel updates.

Re: Keep your autohearth on! (An Complaint About PvP)
Havent read the previous pages and also I havent atacked a single person yet in this world, oh sage one.
What I cant understand is why it seems impossible to have a nice conv without someone like this...
Meh.

Actually Davis is correct ... yes, we do get a lot of players that quit after death or being raided, it happens every world but no where near the drop off that has happened in this world.
Design is about all that's left that interests me now, hence the char I have with Em and another that atm is trying to find the edge of the map (lol, for like hrs, I can't find it!) where I intend to design once again, in peace.
This ^^ ... I have never been bored this early into a world before, and I have never been bored to the point where I want to quit. I rarely even log onto my main now, I have built almost everything and all that is left to do is 'chores' and forage, chores now take twice as long as they used to and foraging is a complete waste of time due to the changes to curios.Players are mostly quitting, because of boredom and because simply they don't like what the devs are doing with the game
