Re: Game Development: Prelude
Since the world is ending, can you tell us some of the best qualities of resources in this map? Out of curiosity.

As long as you guys aren't being pressured into this, and as long as a fresh world will help test more aspects of the new siege system to come in all phases of a world.Eemerald wrote:but we just terraformed our area ;(

Fie! What twisted reasoning convinced you that could possibly ever be a good idea?[*] Significantly reduce the size of the world with the new map.
You've killed exploration and you're turning this into a noobslaughter dota.

Re: Game Development: Prelude
Alright i was able to sit and read this after getting up and punching a wall when reading the words World Reset.
I like the idea of how the world ends, but i also see a few issues with it.. I also have a MAJOR problem with the level caps..
Ok, so Level caps first.. FUCK NO.. Ive seen this done a lot, Wurm Online is the first that comes to mind, very frustrating to know that Lv21 is required to get anything important done, and they did that forever until they finally switched to 1-time payment with Wurm Unlimited. The game is now thriving with life, and the devs still get paid.
I like that your trying to improve the payment model, but level caps are fucking stupid, Subscribed players are capped at 200? thats dumb as hell, it should be unlimited for subs, or at the VERY least 500. I bought the 1y Bronze sub so i didn't have to worry about time played, now i have to worry about the level i reach.. absolutely unacceptable.
You should have come to your playerbase and talked with us before you decided on level caps.. You should seriously reconsider that route.
And now, for the Alter..
Is there a timer on when it can be built? obviously you have the resource requirements, but whats stopping a player from rushing to build an alter ASAP in the next world? I REALLY dislike the idea of the world resetting every month or two.
The combination of level caps and a player controlled world ending mechanic means that people will start the next world, rush combat max cap and fight at the altar, thats what itll come down do, a PvP deathmatch to see whos character gets their name in stone.. the focus on player trade, PvE, and all other aspects of the game will become pointless.
Timer should be that you can only build the alter 3-6 months after a world starts, gives the players enough time to enjoy the game and goof around, after that the battle for glory can begin.
Im really not happy about this update.. while i love how active you both are, it feels like this update was a step in an uncertain direction.

Worlds 3-7 were all far smaller than the current one. I imagine the new one to be something similar to them, rather.venatorvenator wrote:Fie! What twisted reasoning convinced you that could possibly ever be a good idea?[*] Significantly reduce the size of the world with the new map.

OMG
I can't believe you're actually doing this. Though I think the caps should be a bit higher and their ratios should be a bit smaller. But yeah, thanks for having the courage to try and improve the fundamentals of the game
And I think this could mesh with the cap system:

And I think this could mesh with the cap system:
The big thing here is that it's an expense per action rather than a capital investment, so it can't really cause stat inflation. And it'd be quite nice to have a food/curio sink for maxed out people who don't want to feed another alt.DaniAngione wrote:Might be a stupid idea, but...
Make it so that you can go past the cap you've paid (or not) for, but stats/skills slowly decay over time, always 'stabilizing' on your cap. That way you can reward people that are constantly studying by letting them keep their stats more or less higher than their caps, makes botting harder and creates some sort of "LP Sink" that will make huge non-sensical stats crazy difficult to attain. (and keep!)
Also, the higher the stats, the faster the 'decay', to the point that ultra huge stats could be like a temporary buff that one would apply to themselves by spending a lot of LP/food but would decay in a couple hours. The 'threshold' for that could be Palibashing amounts of strength, for example - so palibashing could still be a thing but it would cost a temporary 'buff' to stats that one would have to spend a lot of food for each 'palibashing session'.

Oh, no, I understand that, and I intend to keep playing. It's just the fact that after the reset the money I spent will be getting me literally nothing. Money's kind of tight for me and it just feels bad, you know?CSPAN wrote:Games in Alpha, or eternal alpha arent concrete, you should always keep in the back of your mind a drastic change can come, this game is experimenting to find its niche. I sort of feel like I just wasted my money on a 3 month subscription since it will now do absolutely nothing for me, especially when starting from scratch. I'm not sure how I feel about all this.
