Yeah. Those players with IPs from Russia get permanent skill of taming and riding bears. And machine guns. But gotta fuel bears wit vodka, jgudge wrote:Sarchi wrote:You can tame bears and ride them.

Vodka is made from potatoes, NOT wheat.

I refuse to respect them until they can eat hearthlings at a set table in a civilized fashion.jorb wrote:Animals being lethal is the only thing that is ever going to make players have a bit of respect for them.
I strongly agree with the survival aspect. Something like food expiry/quality decay might prevent people from being 100% safe from starvation, though that would also be highly unwelcome. It would be nice if light sources had some real meaning since people just custom client their way to constant brightness.loftar wrote:It's been our stated opinion ever since world 1 that the game should have a much stronger survival aspect; especially in its early stages. Previously, the only danger one faced whatsoever was being knocked out, and that isn't actually any danger. It's still far too easy to survive, I think; it's more or less impossible to starve, for example. More or less the only way to die outside PvP used to be to be completely oblivious to the game mechanics; when one knew them, it was pretty much completely impossible to perish to the environment.
Haven is supposed to be a game, not a Lego. Also, more death would help to make ancestral worship more meaningful.
That's not to say that things in the other direction could be done as well, though (rather the opposite, so as to make the survival mechanics more fleshed out). For example, I've considered making fires and torches such that they keep wildlife away to some extent. That was never meaningful as long as the wildlife wasn't actually dangerous, though. It can also be argued that animal levels should be removed -- we've considered "freezing" the foxes to their current level 4, and boars to level 7. That way, they wouldn't deal lethal damage in one hit (making HHP more meaningful), and create a more reasonable "ramp" to PvE difficulty.
I don't think death is enough to give ancestral worship meaning, though, or at least not with the current prayers. Perhaps there could be a new prayer to keep animals away from your area temporarily or a prayer to make animals not notice you (perhaps more effective if your ancestor had good stealth). I think all of the current prayers are pretty useless and not really worth praying for unless you grind up a good character specifically to kill it for benefits. Coincidental deaths should be useful, too. Nobody's gonna give up the LP boost from change for a few dinky prayers, though.
Making the animals more reasonable to survive/take on in close range combat sounds good. I imagine people won't take the risk until they have high quality weapons/armour and high combat stats...

Go live on a moor/mudflat/gras/etc no boars/bears therecobaltjones wrote:Don't be obtuse. There's no survival involved. It's a lottery. Random chance. I'm all for expanding the gameplay and making it more challenging/dangerous for new characters, but the current system doesn't offer anything other than a deterrent to continue playing the game.

What next, a self-destructive explosive toads and miniature gigantic rats that kill you in one hit unless you type respectful chats before going near one?
And what's with the new animal spawn system? Isn't there supposed to be compensations like animal tracking or trapping, if they were to become so scarce?
I see no change in this patch other than more annoyance and death possibility.

Rather than whining, you might consider actually replying to my post with the rationale.Supernaut_K wrote:What next, a self-destructive explosive toads and miniature gigantic rats that kill you in one hit unless you type respectful chats before going near one?
