Game Development: Searchin' Angler

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added Cave Anglers. Nasty Angler Fish which lurk in deep cave waters. Beware.
  • Added quality increases from questing to animals. Quest givers can now, sometimes, as a reward for a completed quest, increase the local animal quality of a particular animal.
  • Added a search function to list widgets, namely to: Buddy, village, realm, and map marker lists. With the list in focus, simply start typing. A small field will indicate the string you're currently searching for. Escape clears the search string. You'll figure it out. Suggested here, and here.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • The "Pickup" option for coracles now tries to equip directly to the backpack slot if that is empty, rather than go to the cursor. The "Pickup" option is also now available when you are mounted in the coracle. Suggested here.
  • Truffles should now be possible to put in the Wicker Picker.
  • Flin & Steel and Matches can now be put in a toolbelt. Suggested here.

Game Development: Wish upon a Star

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added Falling Stars. Every once in a while a star will be knocked loose from the firmament of the Hearth, and begin hurtling towards it. Hearthlings are informed of falling stars by an event notification. While a star is falling, and if it is night time, you may use a new Hearth Magic, "Star Gaze" to get a tracking indicator, pointing, with some randomness, at a likely crash site for the star.
  • A falling star will be glowing red hot for some time after impact, during which time it can't be touched. Once it has cooled off, however, you may harvest a new mineral "Meteorite" from it. Metorite is an ore.
  • Falling stars are gentle creatures, and avoid landing on claims.
  • Added three distinct cave fishes. Will add more.
  • Added a skeleton for Beavers.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Stats are no longer relevant for maneuvers, and the effects of maneuvers are always constant. This reverses a controversial change to maneuvers that we had made here.
  • Added a Purchase History sub-page to the "Account" page on the website. You can now view your entire purchase history there, if you have one.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Truffle spawn values no longer accidentally left in debug mode, and are now set to some sort of sane value.
  • Fixed a typo in the Ancient Windthrow event text.

Game Development: Truffle Snout

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added Truffles. Leashed Pigs will sometimes run off and dig up truffles. There are two(?) types of Truffles, namely white and black. Truffles come with a varying number of uses, and can, much like pepper, be used to season food. Pigs now have a "Truffle Snout" value which can be bred. The Truffle Snout value determines how good a pig is at finding truffles. Truffles spawn much like any foragable would, so you naturally have to walk the pigs around. A truffle with more than five uses can be used as a Mushroom for recipes.

  • The main dev focus is the client rendering rewrite, and patches will be small until that has been completed. We had a lot to talk about after the hiatus last week, and this took longer than perhaps expected. Aiming bigger next week.

Game Development: Locked Bollock

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added locks for houses. You may now install locks on houses. Suggested here, here, and here.
  • Added two/three new lock types: Wooden Lock, and Steel Lock, and transitioned previous lock resources to the new type Metal Lock.
  • Added Lockpicking. Locks on houses and containers, but not on Knarrs or gates, can now be picked. If you encounter a locked door or container, you may attempt to pick it with a new action icon "Pick Lock", under the Adventure Menu, available with "Locks & Bolts". When you pick a lock, the geometric mean of your Dex, Int, and Stealth values are compared against the installed lock's quality, modified by a unique factor per lock type, to determine a picking time. The time required to pick a lock ranges from a low of more or less zero time, to a high of 24 RL hours. Beyond that you can't pick the lock at all. Once the timer expires, the lock is picked, and you may enter/open. The lock remains picked until someone with a proper key uses the door or container in question again.
  • There are security implications to this lock implementation that I'm sure we're not aware of, due to the peculiarities of your base designs, so I advice you to install the proper locks you want set. As a precaution we made it so that you can never install a lock if it would be a crime to do so. I hope that introducing this doesn't cause any huge problems for anyone.
  • Introduced animal castration. Male domestic animals can now be castrated. When you castrate animals you receive a "Bollock" of the relevant type, which can be roasted or used in meat recipes. Suggested here.
  • Added Fox Skeleton

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Knarr cargo holds should now be easier to access despite Knarr drift, and Knarrs shouldn't drift quite as far.
  • Can now aggro through Slimes.
  • Raw Goat meat can no longer be eaten. Copied code error.

Game Development: Magnifying Cook

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added "Magnifying Glass", curiosity. Suggested here.
  • You may now draw water from deep tiles next to you.
  • Added skeletons to Billies, Nannies, Kids and Wildgoat.

Credos
-----------------------
  • Cook: They say a watched pot never boils, and without you ever really noticing it, up until now, the pot of your mind unwatched has slowly stirred up into a hearthy broth of new ideas and impulses, threatening now in stormy boiling to blow the lid clean off entirely. You take no greater pleasure in life than from cooking; from combining the myriad ingredients of game and fowl and fish alike, into new creations, the one more dazzling and fantastical on the tongue than the next, and you have perhaps even begun developing a bit of a reputation for your work with knife and ladle. The blood of the first Hearthling was made from red clay, boiled in water, and seasoned with the breath of life, by the Old Gods. Stirring the Cook's Pot promises...
    • Increased speed when cooking.
    • Constitution +15
    • Quality bonus when cooking.
    • Cooking +30
    • Chance to double the output when cooking.
  • Image
  • Cook depends on Farmer and Hunter.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • May have fixed a bug by which livestock would sometimes become unlikely to reproduce.
  • Fixed a bug by which vines could spread to claimed tiles.
  • Fixed a bug by which items would sometimes not decay properly in caves.
  • Added a slight drift to anchored Knarrs. They will stay near the spot they were parked at, but may drift slightly.

Game Development: Oak Apple Gold

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Quest givers will now, occasionally, reward you for completing quests for them with a permanent, local quality increase to some particular herb.
  • Added "Golden Thread", and "Golden Cloth". You can now make thread from silk, gold, and quicksilver, and then cloth from that. Only decorative for the time being. Suggested here.
  • Added skeletons to Stallion, Mare, Foal, Wildhorse and Grey Seal.
  • Added "Oak Apple", curiosity.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Disallowed building of Wilderness Beacons and Hearthfires if building them would imply a crime of vandalism, to prevent exploits. This is not the solution we'd like to use, but the actual fix is more involved.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Quest rewards are now determined upon completion, rather than generation, so you should no longer get, for example, zero percent hunger reduction rewards.
  • "Land of Milk & Honey" should now actually boost quests as indicated.
  • "Weird Beetroot" should now be more common.
  • Reduced risk of Coaler's Cough and Beestings.

Game Development: Lantern Footstool

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added an item pool for things decayed from the ground, much akin to the item pool for beach salvage. When digging, you can, thus, sometimes find items that decayed away in the area where you are digging.
  • Added "Cloth Footstool", stool.
  • Added "Cave Lantern", mushroom.
  • Shift-clicking to destroy vines growing on paving tiles will now remove all vines.
  • Added skeletons for hogs, sows, piglets and lynx.
  • Added a subcategory "Signs & Display" in the Furniture build menu.

Game Development: Display Tumor

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added a graphical effect to collapsing dungeons, of them sinking into the ground/ocean.
  • Added "Display Case", suggested here among many places. The Display Case can hold, and display, excatly one item, and only items 1x1 in size. Not all items will look good in a Display case, and some will definitely bleed through it, but I figure that could be your problem should you decide to use them.
  • Added skeletons for Mammoth & Otter.
  • Added "Grotesque Tumour", rare drop when butchering, curiosity.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Fixed the problem with black nil tiles in caves being transparent, which made it possible, for example, to see the inside of the minehole through the black tiles surrounding a mineshaft.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Silver & Gold paving should no longer decay. Suggested on stream.
  • Buffed "Dark Heart".
