Game Development: Parka Blewit

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added "Field Blewits", mushroom.
  • Added "Reindeer Parka", jacket.
  • Added "Fulgurite", curiosity. Found when digging sand. Suggested here.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Improved the user interface for roads, by implementing a dedicated one, instead of using the flower menu. Suggested here and here. Also added a range display to the initial placement milestone.
  • Logs and stumps should now, if off-claim, decay to mirkwood equivalents. This means you can produce quality mirkwood. Suggested here.
  • Chances to catch fish with casting rods and lures are now more exhaustively presented, with chance to bite, chance to land, and effective final chance, instead of only chance to bite as it used to be. A bit spreadsheet-ish, but more accurate. Feel free to suggest something better.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Fixed a generation bug by which Bat Dungeons would sometimes be large enough to cross their world borders.
  • Added back and forth hotlinks to the screenshot pages when browsing the screenshot feeds.
  • Differentiated the speed of dungeon bats a bit.

Image

Today's Patch Item, for the fair price of $10, is the "Strawberry Hat".

Game Development: A Bat out of Hell

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added "Bat Caves", dungeon type. In the deep mines of the Hearth, a new dungeon type of screeching terrors and flapping delights can now be found; Bat Caves. Bat Caves are full of bats, and things Bat, and are quite the sight to behold, and complete with some new challenges added relative to the Beaver Dams.
  • Bat Caves should be challenging, but do let us know if you find it too much. Also do let us know if you find the rewards fun and meaningful. I promise we'll make the next dungeon more noob friendly.
  • That's it, really.

  • With the big project of the past few weeks done and dusted, we are going to shift gears instead to a new project, namely the completion of the client rendering rewrite. The rewrite has been almost a year in the making, and we'd like to see it finished. For the coming weeks, until completion, we will drop small, one-day patches, while loftar dedicates remaining dev time toward the client rendering rewrite. This sucks a bit, but having loftar tied up in this project indefinitely sucks more.

Game Development: Wood Grease

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added "Fishing Net", you can drop the net, or right click it to place it exactly. The net catches fish over time, but also loses efficiency in doing so over time. Fish caught have a chance to disappear per unit of time, so there's a judgment call to be made on when to recover the nets, as leaving them for too long will cause them to empty. Suggested since the dawn of time, and perhaps a first stab at more fishing changes in the pipe.
  • Added "Wood Grouse", forest bird with distinct dimorphism between cocks and hens. Can't never have enough birds. The cocks fight. Suggested here.
  • Added "Cutblade", weapon.
  • Added "Mohair Shirt", shirt.
  • Added "Bear Fur Trimmings", gilding.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Made it so that any carryable object with an object icon can have its inventory icon displayed on display signs, by carrying the object and right-clicking the display sign. Suggested here. Also made it so that meat icons are properly displayed, suggested here.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Buffed Swan fighting values to make some room in the scala naturae for Wood Grouse.
  • You can no longer light things with an Irrlantern.
  • Fixed a bug by which Goats did not update their fleece meshes properly when shearable.
  • Platemail now wallmounts better. Reported here.

Game Development: Bandy Rudolf

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added the ability to "Bandy" with other players. If you bandy with someone you open a shared inventory with that character, to which both of you can dump, and from which both of you can take, items. If either of you walk away the window will close. If the window closes for any reason, all items in it will scatter. Suggested here.
  • Added "Reindeer", creature. Will make these possible to domesticate at some point.
  • Added "Irrlantern", lantern made from Irrlights. Can't be put out, but burns for about 2RL weeks. Suggested here.
  • Added one new experience.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Made it so that you now, when travelling down a mineshaft, crime check against both the claim above ground and against potential claims below ground, this in order to prevent situations where you, due to a visitor debuff, can travel down a mineshaft, but not back up again. Also made it so that you get a "free" trespass, akin to how charter stones have always worked, whenever traveling onto a claim through a mineshaft, cave entrances/exits, or by road.
  • The quest pointer now changes both graphically and in terms of tooltip to indicate that a quest giver is underground, as soon as you get close enough that you would otherwise have seen the quest giver. Implicitly suggested by a million bug reports, and here.
  • Changed the mine support removal rules so that, whenever a mine support is removed, all tiles under it are checked for unstable mine tiles. If there are unstable tiles within range, which are now, with the removal of the mine support, unsupported, the removal will cause a cave in. This means that you can now tear down mine supports without cave ins, if you still have proper support around it. Suggested here.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Tame horses should have less inclinations to attack archers on their own accord when provoked by arrows. Suggested here.
  • Fixed a bug with sketches being applied weirdly when applied to the internal doors of great halls. Reported in PM.
  • Increased internal size of Wicker Picker by one row and one column. Not sure that actually makes it useful, but lacking ideas for how to actually and properly balance it against traveler's sacks.
  • Einherjer aspect now gives 25% ancestor bonus, rather than 20%.
  • Fresh foxhide is now called Fresh, rather than Raw. Reported here.
  • Fixed a bug by which barrel excess could be destroyed when transferring seeds. Reported here.
  • Fixed a bug by which full strawbaskets had dropped an animation. Reported here and here.
  • Increased decay timer on easter eggs.
  • Made it so that Battle Standards can, samurai style, be worn in the cape or backpack slots.

Game Development: Sheared Standeeaster

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added "Easter Eggs", curiosity. Suggested here. You can craft these, but rumor has it that certain furry forest friends have taken to seasonally drop them as well.
  • Added "Face Cutout Standee", nonsense. Suggested here.
  • Added "Hatrack", nonsense. Suggested here. You can hang your hats on these.
  • Added "Shears", tool for cutting wool faster. Suggested here, here, here, and here. Thank you for your liberal use of the forum search function.
  • Added "Plate Boots", armored boots.
  • Added "Armored Striders", armored boots. Suggested here.
  • Added "Goat Mask", mask. Suggested here and here.
  • Added "Billygoat Horn", curiosity. Suggested here.
  • Added "Marsh-Mallow", forageable, flower, food, salad. Suggested here.
  • Added "Leeky Fowl", food. Suggested in PM.
  • Added "Poultry Pot Pie", food. Suggested here.
  • Added "Fishballs", food. Suggested here.
  • Added "Silk Gloves", clothing. Suggested here.
  • Added "Moose Antler Buttons", gilding.
  • Added a new wound. Suggested.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • You now heal SHP while sleeping in a bed. This still costs energy, but ignores the Healing level, so you will heal regardless of how much energy you have.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Fixed a small graphics bug in the Stone casket's update function.
  • You can now use sketches on house doors indoors. Apparently this never worked. Reported here.
  • Changed the input order for flipper bones versus normal bones in the "Deep Sea Atavism" recipe, hopefully alleviating this and this.
  • Fixed a minor text issue.
  • Added a dream to the crafting recipe of Enthroned Toads, to make them somewhat easier to increase in quality, and also buffed their base LP a bit. Suggested here.
  • Fixed a couple of issues with Ancestor requests. Gold/silver coins should now always be accepted. The ancestors should not ask for Cutblades. Branding Irons now have quality. The ancestors should no longer ask for Gilding Rocks or Gilding Leaves.
  • Shelves can now be used to receive payment from barter stands. Reported in PM.
  • You should now inherit branded animals. Reported here.
  • Fixed a small bug in that you could, when lure fishing, sometimes lose your line without losing your lure and hook.
  • Road extension now crime checks upon placing, rather than on clicking "Extend", suggested in PM.

JorbStream 180325, 19:00 UTC

So, late as always, and it'll be interesting to see if we can get the time right on the same day we switch over to summer time, but we'll give it a go.

Thus: Jorb stream on Sunday, March 25th, 19:00 UTC

Which, if I do my math right, should translate to 21:00 Swedish time, which, in any event, is the time when I intend to start.

Catch you there!

Game Development: Mexican Eagle

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added support for a player driven screenshot feed. With Alt + S you can now take an ingame screenshot. You can choose to include or exclude the UI, and whether to make the screenshot public. In either event you will get a link to the screenshot, and if you chose to make it public it will also be displayed under the newly added Player Feed on the Media page. Only verified accounts may contribute to the screenshot feed, and if you abuse it or post trash you will be suspended from it. This may not be the most game changing feature, but it's one we've wanted to have for some time, and we had to take the time to develop it at some point.
  • Added "Golden Eagle", fairly fierce fighting flyer.
  • Added "Dry Stone Fence", stone fence. Suggested plenty, but for example here.
  • Added "Boarhide Lining", gilding.
  • Added "Turnip Fries", food, and...
  • Added "Buttered Leeks", food. Both requested here.
  • Added "Feather Sunfeather", curiosity, suggested here. Also made it so that you can equip sunfeathers.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Reduced Einherjer bonus from "A Prayer For Strength" from 50% to 20%, and increased the Numen cost from 40 to 50. Suggested here.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Added a timer to decaying objects, like sulphur and mandrakes. Suggested here.
  • Buffed soak of Docks. Suggested here.
  • You can now inspect study tables to get the name of the owner if you have him or her kinned. Suggested here.
  • You can no longer use "Contemplation & Meditation" on someone else's Study Report.
  • Nerfed Quail Feathers.
  • Fixed a typo.
  • Fixed a mesh bleed in the female helmet hair. Reported here.
  • Added a terrain object for Fourleaf Clovers, suggested here.
  • Reconsidered FEP bonuses from Goat meat. Suggested here.
  • Made it so that young domestic animals give fewer bones than adults. Suggested here.
  • You can now put locks on wardrobes. Suggested here.

Game Development: Leek Whistle

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added Leeks, new crop. A type of onion. Suggested here.
  • Added "Whistle", emote. Suggested here.
  • Added, "Pointed Cap" and...
  • Added "Straw Cape", both suggested here.
  • Added "Snakeskin Boots", suggested here.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • As hinted at here, we have made it so that you may now conquer Menhirs and Grotesque Idols from one Realm to another. While Menhirs and Grotesque Idols must still be built as Realm objects, they now otherwise function more akin to normal objects, in that you do not need to challenge them to destroy them, and in that they are protected by claims. Not sure if this actually changes much.
  • Natural Wonders in Villages now drain Village authority to the tune of 10k auth per day. Suggested here.
  • Hotkey:ed bucket icons now refresh when the buckets change their contents. Reported here. How did we ever play without this?

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Fixed a bug by which you could drop Coracles on your own Knarr to get it pretty well stuck. You can no longer drop coracles on other bounding boxes than your own, as an additional consequence of fixes required for this...
  • ... also made it so that dropping soil on claimed ground is now a crime of vandalism.
  • Cupboards now take a small amount of damage whenever they are put down anywhere where they could not be built, i.e. anywhere that isn't inside a house.
  • Fixed a bug by which you could duplicate moves in combat toolbelts.
  • Fixed a crash caused by typing specific thing in public chat, reported in PM.
  • Fixed a bug with a bonus in the lumberjack credo not being applied as intended, reported in PM.
  • Made it so that you cannot plow while mounted. Suggested here.
  • Fixed a bug by which you couldn't aggro from Knarrs properly.
  • Fixed a bug by which the top part of barter stands would sometimes display the wrong cloth material.
  • Fixed a bug by which pressing grapes in a vinegar full press would vaporize the grape juice into the void.
  • Fixed a bug by which you could apply sap taps to saplings.
  • You can now use carried barrels to draw from sap taps.
  • Fixed a bug by which the sap tap graphics weren't updated properly.
  • Made it so that you can build Sublime Porticos pretty much anywhere, suggested here.
  • Straw twine is now fishing line.
  • Added options to "Shoo" and "Pull" to animal leashes, as suggested here.
  • Wort, Batter and Rennet recipes should now display output amounts. Reported here.
  • Added small token rewards in LP for completing tutorial quests. Suggested here.
  • You may now travel with carts, and pull them across shallows. Inspired by this.

Development Headsup: Menhir and Grotesque Idol Protection

Hi,

We're going to make it so that Menhirs and Grotesque Idols work more akin to normal objects, in that they do not require realm challenges to destroy, but rather are instead protected by claims and claim shields. This to make it possible to conquer them from one realm to another.

They probably already are, but you might want to ensure that your security arrangements are up to speed with that.
