our actual village ingame is indeed called Buyan. Bottleneck is more the name of our faction community nowdays sort of.
Im sure one of the older bottleneckers can explain the exact origin of that name. i think it has something to do with Bay12 forum guys that started in world 1 if i recall it correctley.

This is just a guess, but there was only one big lake in world 1 which had kind of a bottleneck at one end. I suppose the village was placed at that bottleneck.

Didn't know the name originated from that far back.

The first Bay12 settlement was a bit west of Brodgar, and it developed a bad case of deforestation. We were discussing which location to move to, and somebody suggested settling in a bottleneck between cliffs, south of that small southern lake. Cliffs were a godsend for getting away from foxes back then, so we agreed on that location. Everyone just kept referring to the location as "bottleneck", so the name Bottleneck stuck when we lit the idol.

A guy named Errol proposed the south lake from map one as our settlement zone, and I pointed out that just south of that lake there was a bottleneck of 2 cliffs that we could use to shield against foxes...which back in the day were almost as lethal as carp. It progessed on from there, as Potjeh says. So there is a bit of the lake thing in there as well.

On map 2 we decided that due to the larger map and farther-flung resources, we would build a set of towns instead of just one, with the moniker "Bottleneck" to refer to the set, and each town named individually...Swampcrazed, Northplowed, Tradefocus, CrimsonIsle, and some more.

Plus, Bottleneck sounds dwarfy, and the two-word naming scheme made abbreviation easy.
