Dunno to take revenge or not

Some idiots broke into my village while I was out looking for a mine, when I got back the whole place reeked of theft and trespass but the only thing I noticed missing was food. The funny thing is I had a bunch of silk laying around, a metric ton of leather, enough rust root to cover a few maps and some other high quality items like seeds and such. I went to confront them and found their little village they had a full Palisade around the entire place but they didn't seem to have much else inside, in fact they seemed to be rather new so I'm not sure if I should take revenge on it, Warning them didn't seem to do much I'm sure if they are hungry they'll be back again. Advice?

Silliness aside, a lot of people here generally kill people for thefts even if the item can be easily replaces. A few people in the world do leave warnings but a few handful of people will use it as an excuse to go on a killing spree.

While I won't say murder is always the best option, I do feel that any criminal action needs to be met with some sort of response. People need to be aware that they can and will be held responsible for their actions.
