What does the different shades of green of the hearthfires mean?

If it's the more intense shade of green, that player is logged on.

I just traveled with my friend thru the river,by the boat,and we saw a lot of abandoned villages. In one,we found NOT claimed hundereds of planted carrots :) But,we got 2 carrots per one seed,so,that wasnt very abandoned at all. I gonna have lotz of perc :3
