I was travelling a while back in a boat loaded with all my hobo possessions, searching for a mine. I would pick up the boat and hide it under a tree, so that it wasn't visible, before heading off to do my prospecting.
Well, this one time, I came back to the hiding spot... and it was gone. Just gone. I was utterly perplexed. I was in a completely uninhabited part of the world, no settlements for miles around, and someone had not only stolen my boat (with everything in it), but been lucky enough to stumble directly onto it when it was completely hidden. Or perhaps, they were following me the whole time...?
Anyway, I figured that was it- I'd never find it. Built another boat, went back to my makeshift camp to try and recoup my losses. On the way home, I literally bumped into a guy in another boat. He went off in another direction, and at the time, it just didn't click in my head... I just thought it was odd to see another human being, when I'd seen no signs of life in the area for such a long time.
About an hour later, I was paying a visit to the clay furnace I'd built several rivers away, when I passed by this guy in his boat again, shooting at a bear. That's when it finally struck me. I waited for him to make his kill and head to shore, and then I snuck up on him, quickly dismounted my boat, and made a beeline for his- he saw me and instantly sprinted back to his boat to block my way.
There was a moment of hesitation for us both. He was just about to flee, when I managed to speed-type out a message:
"Give one of them [chests] back. You can keep the other."
Now, considering I really had no idea whether this guy had
any clue what I was babbling about, I was completely shocked when he rode to shore, got out, and said "ok". He let me take the boat, and when I looked inside, there were all my possessions. Despite really making no attempt at tracking down this boat, having no idea where to even look, and spending an hour just assing around back at camp... here it was. Willingly given up by the person who expertly lifted it from me in the first place.
I didn't stick around long enough to find out who he was. But if he ever reads this: I respect you man. That was truely honorable. And I still have no idea how you found it to begin with. I'm going to call you Garret.
