past it on the way there or something.

Memorizing him wouldn't have done any good, because the person that stole the stuff was an alt. While the game might inform you that you already know the person's main, it won't tell you "This is an alt of X, go kill him". Thus as the alt is likely a throw away and they never logged it again, it doesn't do them any good.

Lesson to be learned here... remove your hearthsecrets when not in use. There's no reason to have one when you're not expecting friends, or adding kin. All it does is add a security hole.
