We use both CR and a charterstone at Buyan market.
CR for people with a village (with decent security), charterstone for people without a village / hermits.
A charterstone is a decent ways to get people fast-travel access to your market. Only Lawspeakers and chiefs would have some trouble, since they would have to drop their LS/Chief position, to be able to leave their village, and be accepted into the market's village, for charterstone adoption.

It has it's security risks though.
Since you have to swear people into your village, to have them adopt the charterstone, the is the risk of them porting away / logging out, and becoming an undesired phantom village member.
We solved that at Buyan market by adopting the following procedure:

1) character who wants access travels to our market, by boat/wagon/foot.
2) He/she meets our welcoming party, and aggros one of them. This way, he cannot teleport / log out.
3) He/she is sworn in, and adopts the charterstone
4) He/she is exiled from village again
5) We drop aggro

This procedure only leaves non-summonable assault scents, so it's quite safe for the trader.

So you only trade with people who have rage? And as for the scents, call me paranoid, but I'd rather not leave ANY scents for some over-eager avenger to find me with and do the "good" deed...we've seen that happen before ;)

But in general, it seems like a good idea if you can keep the security up.

Anyway, what's the solution you found for 'nople? Multiple crossroads? :D

Dunno about Martinuzz, but I aggro people that I'm giving access to, not the other way around.

nope, it will be just one. but it will be brickwalled with a gate and the insides will be filled with shift clicked basket signs, especially covering the tile of the CR, since it doesn´t cover a whole tile on its own.

Well, if people do not have rage, we aggro them, yea.

And to prevent people from being overly enthousiastic on tracking the scents, I usually cover them with a boulder (on village claim).
Anyone wanting to track the assault (non-summonable) scent, would have to leave a theft scent to remove the boulder and get to the scent.

Actually it's just trespassing to move the boulder.

You could put build signs over them then, wouldn't that be vandalism?

A straw basket might also work. A barrel would also work, I believe.

A curding tub should be wide enough to cover the scent, but I have never kept one outside for extended periods of time, so I would have no idea how quickly they decay.
