hm. 100 mussels isnt a whole lot. plus the chances that the person will get a pearl from that lot are low, but good enough to make (at least me) happy.

Not being 100% sure (by testing of your own) when committing a crime

To the OP:

you got off lucky m8. and it's not the fact that you stole and then was caught and was offered a way to keep your life. it was in the fact you came onto the H&H forums and asked for advise about if you should or should not pay the fine. If it was me who you stole from. I too would had given you a fine(though my fine would be you would be making roads or brick or block depos(if you lived close to me) or 7 times the value of the item(s) you stole(and yes i determine the value). BUT if i then saw yo come in here and ask if you should pay or not? You would prolly be dead now.

The point of the post wasn't really whether or not I should pay. It was 100 mussels and that's really no problem for anyone to get. Of course I'd do it. The point was should I be worried about repercussions afterwards. For example: I pay the fee but someone still comes back for more.

In any case, nothing like that happened at all. I paid my fine and the matter was solved. No reason to keep posting here lecturing me, I learned my lesson.

Edit: And to be honest I think it made matters a little easier to clear up. Someone gave me a better definition of how A.D. actually works, which was reassuring. And I also received a few helpful tips on how to not get in to trouble like this again. All in all it was a lesson well learned. Like Tampax said, I gave a perfect example of how not all conflicts need to end in bloodshed, and I can agree with that.

To the OP:

Congratulations, you have just proven to TAMPAX and his gang that they can take whatever they want from you, whenever they want! Expect to get buttfucked regularly, if they don't kill you. This is what we in the states like to call a 'Protection Racket': You pay them whatever they want, and they 'protect' you from, well, themselves. Sure, it's one hundred mussels now, but what will it be next time? A hundred leather? A hundred bear pelts?

I suggest you hire/bribe someone stronger than you to take care of these extortionists at the earliest opportunity.

I have nothing more to say.

If that was the case, why didn't they demand the bigger stuff at the first demand?

No one would simply be 'paid' to take care of someone so big.

His best bet is to leave, knowing where he is he isn't safe at all, period. Not saying that they're bad or will do such things but I'd recommend the same if someone said they ran into the same situation with me. It's not whether the person will or not, it's that they can, it's that they know where you live, where your stuff is, none of your items are safe any longer because they could easily break in and then leave, and who would do anything about it?
