Just wondering. Are you talking about dropping milestones with or whiteout a additional stone road ?

I was wondering, if you would put milestone pillars along a river, could a boat autofollow them, or would the boat hit the riverbank and cancel the trip at each pillar?

One problem with building roads like this is it is a time investment for a single person to do; and unfortunately most people don't really care for roads. For trading, if there is infrastructure in place, crossroads are faster and safer to use. Also carrying a boat or going in a wagon, there is no benefit for a paved road, which is time consuming to make, especially if you don't have metal tools.

That said, however, I have been surveying an area to cut a marked trail between two SG's waterways. Pretty simple, just cutting trees that are in the way of a path, and marking it with torchposts. Set up a few boar trapping gates and maybe find a well spot along the way for basic explorer amemities. I don't think demand for anything better is high enough to justify the time spent building it, no matter how fun it might be. :)

No paving seems necessary. Just crossroads seems easy enough.

If there are serious wandering caravans players who can trade goods around different villages, good goods too, then I wouldn't mind helping out on some forest clearing for wagon routes (Doesn't need to be paved for obvious reasons...) Could even provide some build up houses every X amount of miles for wagons to temporary claim and sleep in... etc etc

I was interested and wandering if others were in setting up a small brickwalled area in every supergrid, village claimed with crossroads that lead between the supergrids and at each supergrid to the villages within the supergrid who wish to participate.

This would be tough and should start with with the central 5x5 SGs and expand outward since most decent villages are in the inner SGs.

Each would be brickwalled and have a small house (maybe mansion?) in it.

The biggest problem though is how to manage the 'village' that houses the crossroads, that's 81 vllages.

Aso has actually been building a very large highway, stretching from Xanadu and Lost Caverns, going north along the supergrid border, working its way up. He ultimately hopes to reach the central supergrid (made it though most of S1E2 already, and we made about one local grid one night with multiple people working).

We have a similar system we are building, but pretty localized due to resource and player strength... Building alts to Lawspeak each Fort (81 as you said) isn't any easy task. (looking to integrate our system with other villages over time)

If there was 81 active hermits who have no problems of being a LS by themselves, then they can build their little "lot" away from the "bricked crossroad system" and manage the upkeep while benefiting from the trade, traffic, and support from villagers who participate in the project. They can also report any attacks on the crossroad system and request assistance from all villages participating in the highway for maintaince or defense.

you could probably set them up at the corners of supergrids since that's where the riverless paths are anyway... you would only need 64
