The Battle of Tinkertown

The Seren_Elder Stories

It was a brisk evening. The moon was full and shining brighter than I think I had ever seen before.

We traveled at a quick pace, my companions and I, whom I will refer to as "The Alts." The sounds of creatures within the dark forest that surrounded us on all sides, our movement faster with each step. Our destination? Tinkertown of course. A place which I thought may have held warmth and comfort to help us last until morning, however I had no idea what lay ahead of us in the next few hours.

After a long walk, I could see it in the distance. There was nothing to indicate the presence of any person from this far. Not a flickering light nor sign of any movement. Although I didn't think it at the time, but perhaps these signs should have been warning enough for us to turn back, or make camp and continue on in the morning.

However we trekked on, the thought of delicious food and a warm bed consumed us. At last we had come upon the great walls of Tinkertown. My first inclination was to shout over the walls, hoping a friendly voice would answer back, but a strange noise entered my ears before I had the chance...

What could that be I wondered? I'm sure my compatriots were just as confused as I was...

The noise seemed to be coming further down the wall, so we investigated. In the cover of darkness, The Alts and I stealthily made our way through bushes and past trees, the noise becoming louder as we moved.

Finally, we came upon several soldiers and what appeared to be a battering ram. "Villains!" I exclaimed under my breath. Dastardly raiders looking to loot anything they can get their hands on within the sanctity of Tinkertown's walls. Without hesitation I drew my blade, as did my companions. With the element of surprise, we attacked!

All of the sudden, 5 more men jumped from the bushes! An ambush! The bastards had a trap ready for anyone who tried to stop them!

We fought as valiantly as we could, but there were just too many of them, we were easily outmatched. I signaled The Alts to retreat as I did my best to hold off the raiders while they could get a head start. As they started running, arrows flew past my head. There was no need to risk my life by even looking behind me, I know what happened. They were shot. There was nothing I could do for them now.

I ran as fast as I could, but one of their archers managed to hit me in the leg. Limping and dizzy from the pain, I managed to find refuge in an abandoned cabin. They are most likely searching for me, so as my last act in life, I decided to write this story down and hide it within the cabin for any who come across it.

For whoever find this, please tell this story as a warning to all who travel to Tinkertown or its surrounding areas so my death is not in vain.
