let me break it down for you

the idea:
an offsite forum for villages, each with their own subforum

alleged benefit:
a private forum for your village, to discuss your village business

problem:
the forum adminstrator (our good friend, the poster of this thread) has global access, meaning the forums are not private

solution:
set up your own forum for your village on freeforums, or host your own forum for your village on your own server. setting up a forum on freeforums takes at most, 5 minutes.

alleged benefit:
there can be a forum for trades and intervillage discussions

problem:
without large participation it would be less useful than the existing subforums on this forum

solution:
use the apples for oranges and in congress assembled forums that currently exist

is there anything i didn't cover? do you understand now?

I understand your viewpoint now.
Still disagree with most of your stances but fighting about it doesn't move the issue forward.

I don't know how the admin structure here on H&H forums works but it is looking like the middle ground is to demand that villages get their own private boards on here and the admins manage them.

I'm going to go and explore the Apples For Oranges and In Congress Assembled boards but at a glance I don't like them.

EDIT: should probably clear up the number of people in a camp this was designed for as I think the people against this are in the big 50+ person armies.

Now I can see why some people want a moderator on this forums. He could move this thread to the c&i and I would never be bothered by it again, since I skip 90% of the topics there anyway.

Why would we implicitly trust ViciousGamer04 to preseve our privacy when we can use a large anonymous service that is run by people who have no stake in this online game to do that job?

What advantage does ViciousGamer's forum have over freeforums + the current H&H forum?
The only potential advantage I can see is that it could be moderated, however again, why should we trust ViciousGamer to pick good moderators, assuming that we want moderators at all (last thread I saw about it showed many who do not)

The current "in congress assembled" and "apples and oranges" forums seem to provide everything we need.

I like how you make it sound so serious that I would potentially go out of my way to pry into other's privacy when I could care less because the odds that our village is anywhere near another's is so very slim it isn't even funny, and on top of that it's a game and I have better things to do then to stalk the individual village forums, lol.

The advantage would be that it's more focused on Villages primarily as opposed to an individual village or a broad discussion of Haven and Hearth. Lol, I don't pick moderators. I allow the particular village to get a forum and choose their moderator(generally their village leader or an active village member.) and then I stop paying attention after I set their users up for that particular forum and make it private. Only boards I would be moderating are general ones such as a chat, basic haven help(which I state that it would probably be better to just ask on here.), basic trade, basic war board, etc. & probably a bit more later on(Such as various ally forums that only the given village and it's allies would be able to see.). Oh, and what's the obsession with such a crappy free forum service like freeforums? Forumotion is so much better customization wise.

Well, seemingly they do(the congress and apples boards.) but I feel they could be more elaborate then what they are and since they really don't suit our villages "needs"(and apparently others if they're off making individual forums as well.) I decided to make a forum and while I was making it I realized how quiet it would be just having a forum for our village and some of our allies so I decided to just allow any ol' village to pop in and join up. I also felt it's a good way to network with other villages especially later to do crossroads n' such & it could really help to open up to some fantastic trading opportunities & new friendly village allies.

What I don't understand is villages having owners. Any monarchies/oligarchies/corporate structured villages out there?

juhubert: Oh. How do you do?
burgingham: How do you do, good sir? I am burgingham, King of the Sodomians. Whose mansion is that?
juhubert: King of the who?
burgingham: King of the Sodomians.
juhubert: Who are the Sodomians?
burgingham: Well, we all are. We are all Sodomians. And I am your king.
avu: I didn't know we had a king. I thought we were an autonomous collective.
juhubert: You're foolin' yourself! We're living in a dictatorship. A self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working class...
avu: Oh, there you go bringing class into it again.
juhubert: Well, that's what it's all about! If only people would...
burgingham: Please, please, good people, I am in haste. Who lives in that mansion?
avu: No one lives there.
burgingham: Then who is your lord?
avu: We don't have a lord.
juhubert: I told you, we're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to be a sort of executive officer for the week...
burgingham: Yes...
juhubert: ...but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting...
burgingham: Yes I see...
juhubert: ...by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs...
burgingham: Be quiet!
juhubert: ...but by a two thirds majority in the case of...
burgingham: Be quiet! I order you to be quiet!
avu: Order, eh? Who does he think he is?

This would work just fine until the day someone raids/kills you and you go snooping through all the forums looking for the culprit.

That day will happen, and you will rage.

Your response seems to be:
The odds that our village is anywhere near another's is so very slim it isn't even funny

i.e. You won't have reason to do so. I disagree, as even if it doesn't benefit you personally and directly, there'll always be other people who are keen to know who could bribe you with in game or out of game resources.
Additionally, odds are your village will be close to SOMEONE at some point in the game, so sucks to be them I guess?

It's a game and I have better things to do then to stalk the individual village forums, lol.

i.e. You don't take it seriously enough. Forgive me if that doesn't fill me with confidence.

Oh, and what's the obsession with such a crappy free forum service like freeforums?

The obsession is that it's free, and that in using it we're not implicitly trusting someone who is playing the same game and who is not in our faction.

Forumotion is so much better customization wise.

Well, seemingly they do(the congress and apples boards.) but I feel they could be more elaborate then what they are and since they really don't suit our villages "needs"

What customizations does Forumotion offer, what "needs" are not being served by the apples and oranges and in congress assembled boards?
You are being extremely vague and possibly evasive in your answers.

(and apparently others if they're off making individual forums as well.)

Every town I'm aware of that uses a private forum, is using both their private forum, as well and the ICA and AfO forums.
The private forum caters to the need for not having visible posts, the official forums caters to the need for dealing with entities outside the village.

I am not asking you to compare your solution with the official board on its own. I'm asking you to compare your solution with the solution that many of us are using, the official board, plus a private board run by an entity we trust.

I also felt it's a good way to network with other villages

How is it any better for networking with other villages than the official forums?

You make a lot of general vague statements without any detail or use cases to back them up, I don't see the advantages and you're answering that with what amounts to saying "there are advantages". Your stupid jedi mind tricks won't work on me!
