I've had my places busted a few times, and, after the initial shock passes, I usually just pick up whatever is left and move. It's usually a fresh start, and the pain of loss subsides quickly when you are suddenly unburdened by the responsibilities of ownership. Then again I'm also very much a solo player.
You feel better now?
Cant you see it?
*sarcasm off*
Later, I put solid effort and gave legitimate suggestion of how to avoid similar absurd destruction and havoc (
thread is still fresh btw) but no comments.. even if its stupid or too complex.
Emotional? lol. He's "emotional"...lol Games where sandbox mechanics are in play are all about achievement, building something. Your time or feeling of achievement may mean nothing or little to you.
(ON a side note, a friend of ours who has looked for a job in real life for 10 month commited suicide monday afternoon, was found by his 13 year old daughter hanging in the bathroom of his home, he was a faithful player of H&H, so granted I may be a bit emotional myself right now and I SO hate to interject the real world into you guys fantasy griefer bullshit BUT at least he didn't see all his work here destroyed right).
Time is indeed precious and so is emotion. People play games (at least the mature gamers) for fun and relaxation, a bit of virtual life , scoializing, building and achievement. I , especially now, tend to agree with the vast number of people who left and will leave this game. It IS redicuous. To have a system by which just for LULZ you can kill people, leave cubbards full of metal to decay, not take ANYTHING becuause you didnt really need anything, destroy all buildings and just basically destory months of other REAL people's time and effort. IS sick. What you do online IS a representation of your real life personality in many ways and on many issues.
The game has great foundational ides, some near genius (like the quality stuff, the building and farming ect.) But i do likewise believe genius can also come along with near psychotic personal demons. In the end, especially after being given a dose of real life reality this week. I have come to believe this game is the farthest thing from actual healthy gaming. I think because of the nature of it's potential that it attracts some pretty serious hardcore sanboxers, and those people do tend to be achievement oriented, mature, intelligent and drift towards grandios plans. This game certainly lays the foundation for such attractions. Gamers of that nature often invest emotion, time, money, and work in ways that griefers cannot fathom in their lack of imagination and intellect. It is why I can think of no other successful or respected game that tries to merge lulz griefer attraction with hardcore sandbox. In light of this I see why. For the majority of gamers who come here, to be stifled by the few greifers due to the mechanics it makes this pretty much one of the most psychologically unhealthy games I think I have ever ran across. If it's suppose to be "Alpha"...then here's a fucking "Alpha" for ya, why not take that shit out and see how successful it is? WHy not try the game WITHOUT these kind of sicko mechanics...sure, leave mutual pvp, leave theft and all that noise. Try it without the psycholtic murder and see how it fares? Who it attracts, how successful it is , what the game COULD be?
You speak of "moving" as if the work is meaningless, to Jorb it may be, he is the fucking dev for christ's sake, there IS no "Real" work on his part aside from his own limitations and desires for his play..how much or little he wishes to play or how much or little he wishes to cheat is up to him and would never be known by anyone but him. Sure I could pack up and move, leave the resources it took so long to find, and do it all again, until some griefer from that area does the same. MOVING does nothing but buy you a week, or a month, or two, before the same thing happens again. it IS irrelevant. I've played for way to long and seen way too much to do anything but laugh at the idea that moving is of any real benefit. I suppose you could be a slave to Sodom or find some little griefer village to farm and make them wine until you get killed in a tracking vengence raid. Yeah, you could do those things.
But in the end, I think like many before, you have to shut the door on the pipe dreams this games offers. And as he said, "Settle" for mediocre until something similar and professional comes along. Hopefully one day some company will do a clone, one without the damage and unhealthy aspects this game both offers and attracts. It really IS just a game, and suppose to be fun for more than just murder/destructive personalites.
In the end, that dose of real life i meantioned above, can really shine a light on this game in the grand scheme of things. This game is monstrously unhealthy for the normal phsycological makeup and minds of the average gamer. In both the emotional turmoil it can place on you, AND the encouragement it gives to the more sick minded individuals in various societies. I am thankful in the knowledge it will never achieve wide success (though sad at the same time). I only hope they grow bored of the greifing and make the game what games should be, or get bored and maybe keep it a private little hobby for their griefer friends or whatnot that noone knows about (Least then you wouldn't be sad at finding it so unplayable..lol). Not really sure what is best. Only that perhaps most will consider the unhealthy emotional nature of this game and not waste 9 months and PLEASE just don't play it if you have an ounce of real gaming emotion beyond pvp greifing and murder. Life IS way too short to waste time getting bashed in a game and causing yourself emotional harm...REAL LIFE can do enough of that for you. Trust me. YOu don't need a game to add to it where you can experience it from both the game and RL..lol
