There's no morality about it. This is EXACTLY why modular security is important. Not only should a city have city walls but people themselves should have walls for their own claims so that a tracked scent indicates exactly who was responsible and when a raiding party shows up to exact vengeance for a crime then the leader can negotiate a village to village truce and either an arrangement for recompense by the accountable or hand over the culprit.

Trying to hash out morality is ridiculous. No one but crybabies and emo empathizers gives a fucking shit.

Who said anything about morality? I said you don't go around killing people just because you can, as it's just going to get you killed in return. People get this god complex as soon as they manage to hunt down a few thieves that they can take on the world. The game is political, not moral. It's about justifications, rights, and protecting your stuff. This is exactly why you don't go aimlessly killing. Soon as you do, and have no justification for it to hope to protect yourself with, that ranger has a free lunch.
